cool breeze air scoop aka the bug strainer

Don't drive through the locusts!

The last time I did this (and it was many years ago), I had to spend about 4 hours picking the bugs out of my radiator!
I tried a high pressure cleaner, but that only removed a small portion of them, and I had to resort to a pair of tweezers and get them out, one by one.
The front of my car was green!

...you mean, like this?

One advantage about the scoop though would be a potentially cheap source of honey if you could find a few bee swarms.

I have one, I attached plastic fly wire to the bottom of the scoop (rubber band) it did not send "beetlejuice" into the cabin and it was easy to drain out the "bugs"

First tiny swarm (?) of locusts today. Nothing through the scoop. Lots of mess on the screen.

Anyone got a good plan for stopping the intercooler getting full of them when there are millions more of them in a couple of weeks?

It was a depressing washing day until now! Thanks so much hahahah!

Though I must say I'd actually been thinking about these the other day. I don't understand the appeal to be honest. You drive a convertible already.... If you want a breeze you can pull the roof back. It's a small car, crack a window! Roof scoops just remind me of Fast and the Furious or Need for Speed. Though I'm open to hear why they are good though, just curious.

I think they're designed for use with the roof off.

so you get the wind at the top, as well as air being shot down near your legs.

They only fit with the roof down, and the theory goes that they push fresh air into the foot well.

Mazda have a solution for this, which came factory fitted on my car - a little dial which lets you direct air to the foot well AND head level air vents simultaneously. Hell, they even included a fan which you can switch on to increase the air flow! PLUS (these Mazda guys were thinkers) you can have either fresh air or recirculate cabin air. Truly amazing. Well done Mazda!
