Removing spare wheel mount

To make more space in the boot I've removed all the trim and the spare wheel and have invested in two cans of puncture repair stuff. Fingers crossed eh?

For further space, what's the best way of removing the mounting that the spare wheel fixes to in the boot? And the jack mounting?

Thanks for the advice. I'll be entrusting this to someone already owns an angle grinder and who hopefully won't a) die or b) remove the whole boot.

MX5s never were and never will be goods carrying vehicles. Sounds like you need something more suitable. Nice sense of humour by the guys- tackle the problem with an angle grinder.

If you remove the fuel tank, that would free up heaps of space.

... leaving more room to fit the towbar to pull the trailer; no, better idea - caravan.

........... but seriously, I sell stuff for a living. If I was any good as a handyman I wouldn't ask these stoopid questions. To give you an idea of how bad I am, I seriously congratulated myself when I managed to change the ride height on the car (this became easier when I got the correct spanners by the way).

So is an angle grinder the go? Or if drilling the rivets out is the better answer, how do I refill the holes?

if it's riveted on then drill the rivets. you may be able to refit it later if you do this, too. i just assumed it was spot welded in which case the angle grinder will do the job.

Get some repair ropes as well, The cans will only work on some holes.

I always wished they'd put a canon style muffler on the left hand side and made the boot much deeper, might do that mod one day.
If you had access to a car like this, would you take it back right away? Neither would I.

Now there's a thread about relocating the spare to under the car.

Bet it won't work with the extra braces under an SE though??
