Another boot leak!

Postby aviper4u » Sat Jul 31, 2010 1:14 pm

Hey,

Traced a boot leak to the back of the soft top, see below

water runs down from below the rubber lip or rain rail? and then runs down into boot from there. Cant see way as the rubber looks good with no tares or crack?
also tried to tighten nuts with no improvement.

cheers for insight

If the drains are clogged then the water might pool in that area enough to get between the uncracked rain rail and the soft top.
If you had access to a car like this, would you take it back right away? Neither would I.

tested the drains, water flows fine.

i can see the water leaking where the three red arrows are in the pic and then it flows down to the fourth arrow and into the boot though i cant workout why the water is leaking when the rubber looks sweet?

thanks for reponse

Is your rain rail riveted to the soft-top? Often the replacement soft-tops are not. If it's not riveted, you will have some holes at the top of the rain rail that can leak water. The fix is easy. Put a layer of gaffer tape on the outside surface of the rain rail, covering the holes. Do this for all the holes. You'll need to have the rain rail removed completely. When you put it back in you'll need to press it onto the fixed bolts and push a hole through the tape, but it'll seal pretty well when you put the plates back on. Just did this job yesterday on my NA.
