what was the cause of the roof flying open? not done up properly, damaged latches?

latches not done up at all one fateful night

After topless driving, I always park my car in the garage and have the roof up but unlatched (to keep dust and debris at bay).
I forgot to latch it properly when I went out and didn't feel like having the roof down.
