Too much spinach...

If one, in moment of haste, twisted ones driver side mirror (on a 1990 NA) too far toward the driver, to the point of snapping the internal rusty bolt/fitting and leaving it in the drivers hand, what would be the easiest fix?

Is it possible to buy another mirror (from a wreckers perhaps) and swap the internal bits or external painted cover so I still have the same colour mirror, or is that all too difficult? I have to admit I haven't tried dismantling anything yet.

I'm assuming it's unlikely to be able to purchase another complete silver mirror within SE QLD.

Thanks in anticipation, and yes it was funny at the time.

Oh - Yes I did do search for mirrors and have seen the post with some of the alternative mirrors folk are using - certainly an option.

hey mate

i did the same thing.. seperate the rubber trim from the glass and replace the bolt with a similar one.. (you made need to hacksaw down a bolt) then re attach the rubber seal over the glass with glue (i think i used araldite)

dont push to hard or you will crack your glass.. mine cracked a tiny bit

i was crapping my pants when i did it.. i couldnt afford another mirror lol.. so yeah is a simple enough job, about 30 mins all up.. i used a razorblade to seperate rubber from the mirror..

It is a similar proceedure when you reverse using the pax mirror to look for obstacles and then wipe out the drivers side one on your mates ute, then get an import mirror which turns out to have a rusted (read phuqt) bolt in it. :D

I used the new glass and case with the old bolt setup. A stanley knife will come in handy. Be patient with it.

All fixed - piece of cake really. A new bolt, a bit of silicone and Jane's your Aunty!

You don't realise how much you use your drivers side mirror until you dont have one!
