seat foam

Postby trader » Tue Nov 07, 2006 11:00 am

Gidday - what a great sight guys - I read a lot of posts but this is the first time I've had to post a question as the search button has come up with nothing. When getting my roof repaired, my upholsterer commented on the lines (cracks) appearing on my seat (NA recovered in leather). His view was that it was caused by foam bolster breaking down and he thought that I should be able to buy one already moulded either locally or o/s. I've tried Mazda who say they have never imported one and have emailed Mazda Japan for a quote...I think it will be too high priced. Has anyone sourced a foam seat and if so where from? Ta

Your best bet would be to get one from Mania or just buy a seat from a wreckers.
A trimmer could cut one up for you, but it wouldn't be the same as having a moulded one.
Mania bring in a lot of front cuts, and so they have some spare seats, I'm sure.

Thanks for that info Benny. For the moment I've put a layer of Dacron under the seat cover and its firmed it up nicely. Dont know how long it will last though especially the side bolster where the foam seems to have broken down. Next time I'm in Sydney I must check out Mx5 mania...not much sense in going there with an empty wallet by the look of it!

I usually try and go there without my wallet...it's too tempting otherwise!
