NB 5x7 Wiring??

Postby sirbob » Mon Nov 06, 2006 1:58 pm

Hey all

I am currenlty installing the NB 5x7 splits into my Jomny but have a unique problem. See, in my infinite wisdom i ran nice new thick guage speaker wires to the nice new shiny speakers i put in my MX5 about 2 months prior to drowning it, and decided to leave the OEM wires and plugs in the doors...

Now since i gone and drowned my MX5, i have lost the plugs and have no idea which of the spades on the speakers are +ve???

Can anybody tell me which of the spades on the speaker is the +ve terminal (there are two spades, one paraelle to the axis of the speaker cone and one paraelle with the face (or trim say). Which one is which????

Thanks

Shouldn't matter how the speakers are wired up as long as they're wired consistently (ie. in-phase with each other), right..?

^^^
Yeah, I'm fairly sure it shouldn't make a difference. So long as all the music comes out the 'right way' (for lack of a better term), and you're not an audiophile, it shouldn't really be a problem.

That was what i thought too, however, but if you have a four speaker system, doesnt that man there's a 50:50 chance of getting the two sets of speakers out of phase???

Easy test is with a 9V battery across the terminals. See if the speaker moves IN or OUT when contact is made, then mark their polarities.

If you're that worried about it, just wire up what you do know, then wire up what you don't. Don't reassemble everything just yet and do the testing. If they're out of phase, reverse it. If not, problem solved, and you can reassemble. Once all the effort of taking the car apart is done, it should be fairly straight forward to figure out which way is right, and then reassembling it all.
