Focal Polyglass 6.5\" splits installed on NA

Hi Everyone

I've just replace the stock door speakers with a pair of 6.5\" splits, here are some details for those looking to do something similar.

A fairly straight forward job. Some grinding on the cut out hole to fit the larger speakers, a drill hole on the speaker basket to fit the stock mounting post, some thick double sided tape to help seal & seat the speaker, zippy ties to hold the cross-over to the power window motor, reuse the tweeter that came with the door trim (until I could find a nice&neat way to mount the Focal tweeter).

I did have a problem with the door hinge thingy hitting the magnet but found that it had a bit of play so if I was to pull the hinge with a spring then it'll miss the speaker...sweet!! (refer to pic)

One thing I'm abit concerned about...how to shield the speakers from rain water?...an awning out of perspects or similar?. The old stock speaker had a lot of water rust.

Also does anyone know where I can get a tube of black sticky goo and clear plastic sheets I could use to reseal the door, whoever did the intrusion bar ripped the thing away and never replaced.

Mr Starlet, I would be concerned about water getting into the speakers.
I also have a pair fo Focal splits in my SP, and after 4.5 years, one of the door speakers bit the dust because of water getting in, and it cost me around $600 for a new speaker!!!!!!

Sorry I can't say what the installer did to waterproof them, but he said he was going to put some special plastic sheeting in there to stop it happening again.

Definately one of my biggest worry atm, plastic sheets could work well; cut out a larger enough plastic sheet to cover the the top half or so and using some of that black none hardening goo to stick to the inside...so if water was to flow from the top down then along the plastic sheet rather than the speakers then drip off to the bottom...sounds like a plan.

Just a quick point of reference, did you put any deadening in the doors? Cant see any int he photos...

Just seems a waste to put in $500 worth of speaker and not do anything for the actual sound quality...

Either way, when i was shopping for the speakers for my NB i looked long and hard at a set of focal K2P... Soo so nice.. then i was going to go to the polyglas but couldnt justify their power per price compared to the ecclipse i eventually brought...

One day i will eventually buy focal, they are definatly the best speaker to my ears.....

No I haven't deaden the door yet as I'm still looking for ways to waterproof the setup but I think I've got it sorted, will have some more pics up in the next few days. How did you deaden yours btw? did you seal yours? if so how? I'm thinking of using similar to what's under the carpet to deaden road noice and some acoustic neutral foam (dimples), I was considering a custom MDF door panel but had to compromise between sound and maintaining a tasteful and clean setup.
