Stainless steel grilles

Postby Gazbo » Tue Oct 24, 2006 6:44 pm

Thinking now of exterior bling, has anyone had experience with these steel grilles, either the woven mesh or the punched sheet metal style (from MX5Parts.co.uk).

In particular, I want to know if you've had any airflow/overheating problems?

Thanks!

I've had Techno grilles on both my NB8A and my SE. Look great, reasonably priced, and stop rocks. No heat problems even with the SE's postage stamp intercooler.

PM Techno (he's a forum member) for further info. A piccy of the one on my NB8A on this page.

Cheers,
Alf

I also have a 'techno' grill on my NA....as shown below. Never had an issue with over heating.

Hi all,
When I was designing the \"Techno\" grilles I did quite an amount of research into the materials and the airflow effects of various mesh sizes.

Mesh is measured in terms of open percentage. That is, the amount of metal to open space. The mesh I use is 71% open. This was the highest that one can get in a mesh that is both visable and strong enough to stop rocks. Mazda OK'd the grille on my SP .... that is a car that can run very hot.
'
I have never had any one of the hundreds of Techno grilles customers complain about heat problems.

What ever you choose please do not go down the path of the stamped aluminium expandable mesh. You will find that apart from its looks it will not pass the 70% rule unless stretched out so much that it loses its strength.

OT Hey Juffa,

I haven't heard much about the turbo install. Has the zorst been fitted, and how's it all going?

The grille certainly enhanced the look of the NC at the Club run 8) . I would think about one myself if I had the NC but reserving judgment on the NB8C.

Techno, how much are your grilles and how easy to install? As you can see, I am Melbourne based. We have actually met on a couple of club runs.

Hi,

There are 2 levels of pricing.

The NA6A and NA8A are $180. (same size)

The NB8B and NB8B and NB8B SE are $195 (three different sizes).

For the NA's and NB8A the tiedowns need to come out.

The NB8B and NB8B SE are fitted with the tie downs left in place ... they are beind the grille.

Interstate packing and posting is usually $25.

Installing takes about 10 minutes in the NA and NB8A's and half that time in NB8B's

Regards

Rob
