It can be done

Postby Juffa » Wed Oct 11, 2006 5:38 pm

Greetings. Long time no post.

For all those NC owners out there that thought they were stuck with the factory stereo headunits there is still hope. I came across the following installation while in Seattle Washington, USA for the Northwest Miata Club's Backroads to Bavaria weekend, as organised by John Hewitt.

It is hard to tell due the angle of the photo, but that is a Pioneer fully intergrated navigation/sound system. The owner told us that it took around 2 hours to install. More details will provided once the owner provides them to us.

The faceplate kits for mounting after market head units come up on US Ebay occassionly. Crutchfield or some other big US sound place might stock them now too.

I'm not sure Phillip Lee. Mazda in Japan sells all different sized head units in the NC so they are available as a genuine Mazda part...........in Japan, but I'm not sure whats happening with the US ones. I dont have an NC so haven't needed to research it very hard, but from memory the kit came with the double DIN face plate with a pocket to be used for single DIN applications similar to the Aussie NB8A setup.

In Japan, you can even get a factory fitted Sat Nav unit as well.
