problem with RAIN and my NC

Postby dissin » Wed Sep 13, 2006 6:30 pm

as Sydney siders know, its been raining cats and dogs over the last week. One day i noticed the floor of the passenger side was soaked, just the floor nothing else luckily. after doing research on the net its to do with the drainage pipes being clogged up with crap - so that water runoff from the top can't drain properley and instead ends up inside the car - great design, NOT.

Anyway - does anyone know what to use to clear it out?

In the US there is a company that sells a specific cleaner - http://www.teammiata.com/TM400.htm

is there such a thing here in Australia ?

The coat hanger is the best way - just wrap some tape or something around the end so it's not sharp.

I wouldn't have thought an NC would need cleaning out already - where are you parking? :)

That's scary. Hope it doesn't happen to mine.

Like MrQ I'm wondering where you are parking as it usually takes a while for enough leaf-type fragments to build up & block the drain holes. Parking near trees with tiny leaves is best avoided as they end up in everything - air vents, doors, under bonnet. As suggested, coathanger/insulated wire is a suitable instrument for clearing drain holes.

You have to work out if it is the floor at the passenger side footwell or back behind the seat...if the drain holes for the soft top are blocked the water comes down behind the seat...if it is at the footwell it's probably the A/C drain pipe...assuming everything is the same on a NC as on a NA/NB...

i have had the car for 8 months now, and we have a huge tree out the front which is deciduous and drops all sorts of crap so i am sure its plenty of time to slowly build up and block the drain. i will take it to service anyway

Don't take it to service. They'll take note of water damage and probably void crap in the future. Best to do a DIY on the clearing out and leave the car in the sun for an hour with the roof off to dry it out.
