I've had my last 5 sedans tinted to maximum legal, spanning the past 15 years. Would I tint my MX-5? No way. But it's not my daily drive.

Regardless of FNQ or Sydney or Melbourne, window tint is a definite advantage. Much cooler; you never get that really ferocious heat in the car, where you can feel the sun blasting through the glass onto your skin.

Tinted film also makes it more difficult for prying eyes inspecting what might be stealable from your parked vehicle, and makes the glass harder to smash -- the poly film holds the glass together quite well so any low-life reaching in probably will cop a few cuts. Not that this is an issue for many thieves because a squirt of morphine or heroin in the veins makes the pain go away...

If you will be driving your MX-5 a lot, and parking it in the sun a lot, and you figure that a good percentage of the time the roof won't be down (in which case why buy an MX-5?) then get it tinted.
yeah id get it done by solar shade. they are pretty good.
Tried looking up Solar Shade... couldn't find their details in google or yellow pages :(

Is there anyone else that people would recommend? Summer is fast approaching and I think I will finally get it done - I've had enough of the sunburnt right arm and toasted left palm (from the Razo metal gear knob).

Just got off the phone with Premier Tint ($240 for the Quantum film with lifetime warranty). Sounds reasonable and they even provide a mobile fitting service. :)

Do you have Tint a Car in Sydney. I had my work car done by them. Good job and life time garantee.

Just about all automotive glass is now 99% UV proof, however, the infra red rays can do a lot of damage to your upholstery and plastics.

I'm in the same boat as Charlie Brown. When the car's being dríven, the roof and windows are usually down, so the tinit wouldn't have much effect, except to me, tinted windows look silly on a convertible, especially when the roof is down and the windows are up.

not on black they don't benny........AND on really hot summer days, they make a HUGE difference to cabin temp & sunburn, even with the roof down................the original question was a bit silly IMO, these things are usually a personal preference anyway......do ya wanna spend the money or not???.........up to you i say

Our car has the darkest legal tint but when the roof is down the windows look a lot lighter

But with the roof up it's harder for people to see in

If you had access to a car like this, would you take it back right away? Neither would I.
