Wiper Motor Question

Postby sab » Thu Jul 20, 2006 10:51 pm

Hi guys. My windscreen wipers only seem to operate at the one speed.

Intermittent and low speed work ok, but no change when the stalk is moved to the high speed position.

Any ideas?? Motor, stalk, wiring???

Ta. :)

Could be any of them sab. Blue with red stripe wire is the high speed power line. Blue with white stripe wire is the low speed line. Check voltage at each of those. If power is OK then it's the motor I suppose. Power not OK it's the switch and/or wiring. Eliminate wiring with a continuity test.

Thanks JBT. I'll get my meter out and check voltages. :D

Here's the verdict;

Wiring and voltages are ok from the stalk to the connector of the motor, with the exception of a dodgy connection somewhere in the motor. I wriggled the wires with the wipers running and they stopped and started.

I pulled the cover off where the wires go into the motor housing and cleaned a fair bit of grease off some metal connector tabs, but the wires go into a sealed section, so not much I can do.

I ran the wipers whilst flipped off the windscreen and I could here and see the difference in speeds. Not as noticable when placed back on the windscreen.

Looks like the wiper motor is getting a little tired, so it will be replaced eventually.
