Soft top vinyl cover things

Postby hugh_ness » Mon May 01, 2006 9:43 am

Hi. I am after some info on the soft top flap that supposed to cover the roof when its down. Is this an aftermarket product? I bought my car 2nd hand and it didnt have one. What mite they cost etc. I see one on ebay at the moment, but its for NA series not NB, I wonder whether that makes much difference. Anyone enlighten me?

It came standard with your car and they are an insane price new from Mazda if your looking at getting a new one. The NB had a different sort of side clip to the NA so they aren't directly interchangable without some mods. They can be made to fit though, well an NB version onto an NA. I'm not sure about the other way around though.

Thanks Garry. Also noticed mx5 mania have the fibreglass version, which, they say, is classier. It probably is. Mite save some bickies and get that one instead.

Fibreglass one can take up some room in the boot wheras the soft top cover fols reasonably flat and takes up little room.

The fibreglass one looks great - but is $$$ to buy (plus you need to get it painted). You should be able to get a second hand vinyl one for a lot less (Mania have them advertised for $130).

I might have one available soon ... :)

In any case, it's a worthwhile item as it will help stop the inside of your roof fading and getting cruddy.

Don't bother with the soft vinyl cover that came with the car...they are pricey.

Try $700+ for it.

For a lot less you can have the Racing Beatdeck cover.

Do a look back through the old for sale section - I advertised one on behalf of a friend and noone wanted to pay anything for it. It is still likely to be available.

Theres often ones on ebay, $80 is usually a good price for one second hand.
If you had access to a car like this, would you take it back right away? Neither would I.
