Not sure where to put this post but Racer Industries has decent prices on Sparco seats at the moment, Sparco Sprints for #399.

I have a set of these and bought them from Racer Industries. Note; they are not comfortable for longer journeys.

I need at least a driver seat soon and will need one for navigator next year. They need to be comfortable for touring too as i am wotking towards Targa Tasmania 2018.
Advice appreciated.
Also i am 65 and have not 100% mobility/agility so a high side may be a problem.

My advice: don't get Sparco Sprints.

And I should add this is coming from someone who has a Sprint as the driver's seat. They are cheap and they fit, that's about all that they have going for them.

Fitting race seats in the MX5 can be a bit of a nightmare, but it's been done plenty of times, so do your research and find out what options tick the boxes for your requirements. You might find that there aren't many options...

I've been really trying to find an alternative, but I just can't seem to find anything that's FIA and ADR approved, will actually fit into the NB, and won't cost me an arm and a leg. I know there is some conjecture over whether the new version of the Sprint is ADR approved, but I have some old Sparco paperwork that just says the "Sparco Sprint" is ADR approved, and the engineer I used previously accepted that.

Don't you mean FIA *or* ADR approved? I don't imagine you'll find any/many seats with both sets of approvals, or that you will need to. That is, road registration requires ADR approval, motorsports may require ADR or FIA or nothing at all, depending on the class/event entered.

You'll potentially still need engineering depending on how you mounted the seats.

My Sparco Revs are FIA approved but not specifically ADR I think.

But the engineer looked at the FIA tests and the ADR tests and said 'yep, that'll do!' which is fair enough because the FIA tests way outdo the rigours of ADR tests.

Heck one of my friends (and mechanic) punted his SS off at PI and his stock standard unmodified in any way seat mounts broke and he ended up looking at the roof lining. Fortunately no other damage to him. Car not so lucky.

My advice would be find the seat you like best and make it fit.

I know I'll only need the ADR approval for legality on the road, but most race seats have an FIA approval as well, and it wouldn't hurt to have both (as I have a habit of turning road cars into race cars ). There are a few around including the Velo GPT & Podium range, but unfortunately they both seem too wide across the top of the seat to fit in the NB.

I know I could probably "make" a different seat fit, but I'm not about to start cutting up my door cards or 'massage' the trans tunnel in my SE

The Sparco Sprint seats are reasonably comfortable for my build, are easy enough to fit to the standard rails, and tick all the other boxes except the official ADR approval, so I think I'll just grab a pair of these and take my chances with the old Sparco paperwork I have.

Ok I need to try out a sparco sprint seat. At $399 it is hard to ignore. Some have said it is not comfortable for longer trips (like to Wakefield and back?)
Next in the Sparco line up is the REV at $699 and the EVO at $815, any comments on either?

Then there is the Racetech RT1000 at $774 from V-Sport. Has anyone tried those?

Best thing to do is try them out for yourself. Everyone is shaped so differently, one that I find comfortable might not work for you.

I find the Sprint to be fine for what I wanted, which is just to be held in better on the track. I've also mounted it lower than the stock seat (using these rails: http://www.sportseats4u.co.uk/gsm-mazda-mx-5-sidemounts/prod_3239.html) which is important for me as I'm on the taller side and need some extra headroom when I've got my helmet on. I don't really drive the car on the street much at all. It would not be comfortable for me on longer trips, but it's fine for me getting to the track and back. My next seat will be something better.

I would also measure very carefully as it is extremely tight in the MX5 and difficult to find seats that fit without any modification. That's why the Sprint is so popular - it's cheap, and it fits without any modifications, and you can bolt it up to stock rails easily as well.

Do you want something that fits without modification, or do you want to get the right seat and make it fit?

I bought a Sabelt Titan but It wouldn't fit in the NB so I swapped it over for a Sparco Sprint V and saved $600
Hopefully it will be ok for driving to Wakefield and back. For longer trips I can swap back to the original seat.

Drove 2 hours in the Sparco Sprint V and it was fine, not uncomfortable.

That means there are two of us exactly the same shape as the 'dummy' that Sparco shape the Sprint 'V' around .........any others???

A mate had the pole positions in his megane and they were 1000 times more comfortable than the sprint v. I would totally get one but for the head aches fitting them and the fact they cost a set of tyres.

TCR - my mate has used the old paper work to get the sprint v mod plated. Pm if you want more details.
