Old fire extinguishers - retest or buy new?

My fire extinguisher is coming to the 2 years since date stamp.

What do you guys do - get it tested and date re-stamped, or just buy a new one? If you just buy a new one, what do you do with the old one? If tested, who tests it and how much does it cost?

Fire NSW says extinguishers only need retesting every 6 years.

See Cams info here.

Testing is required every 3 years for CAMS purposes.

I got mine tested because the place I got mine from (Fire Factory Australia) did not have my model available at the time. Was not worth going to another model as I did not want to modify my bracket. It was a few $ cheaper than a new one as well. Only $22, also at Fire Factory Australia.
The 2nd advantage of testing is the date is the date you got it tested. I have found most extinguishers you buy are from 3-6 months old.

As for what to do with an old one that's up to you. I have an Aldi one mounted in the garage from my Dads car. He now use the same type as me.

$20 from Aldi, $25 from Supercheap:

Why would you bother with a retest? The only problem is you accumulate old extinguishers - but it gives you one for the garage, one for the kitchen, etc.

I give the one that is no longer good (for CAMS events) to friends along with the mount that comes with it if they want to mount it.

Most people don't have one so it could help one day.
