2015 Australian Supersprint C'ships, Wakefield Park

Postby greenMachine » Wed Sep 16, 2015 6:20 pm

The 2015 Australian Supersprint Championship will be run at Wakefield Park, outside Goulburn NSW, over the weekend of 14-15 November. It will be held in conjunction with Rd8 of the NSW State Supersprint Championships. Entries have opened via the CAMS website https://www.meecamsau.com/. You may have to register to see the details, but this site will give you a good idea of the sup regs, classes, etc http://www.supersprints.com.au/.

So, who is going?

In particular, who is coming from interstate? This is just next door for you blokes from down south, and you know Wakefield from the Interstate Challenges, you could have a good result. It would be great to see some players from the sunshine state too.

This little black duck is in, running in 4B as usual.

I would like to go. Need to check calendar, and test the car. And logbook it. What would my car be log booked as? NB8B with SE manifold and turbo. SE replica?

If it is registered, it doesn't need a logbook.

p) Subject to q) all vehicles must have a CAMS log book with the exception of vehicles which are road registered. Road registered cars need to have registration papers & if the competitor does not own the car they must have a letter of authority.
3
q) There will be allowance for cars that do not hold road registration or a CAMS logbook to participate, however they will not be eligible for Championship results. These vehicles will participate in a Non-Logbooked Class.

Vehicle regs are here http://www.supersprints.com.au/rules-and-regulations/2015/2015%20Vehicle%20Regs.pdf. If you are presenting it as an SE, the question would be is it a stock SE (Type 1, Class 1C), or if modified, the extent of those mods would determine whether it fell into 2C, 3C, etc, and the vehicle regs in that link will allow you to identify the appropriate class. Note, turbo cars have some particular restrictions that don't apply to other (non-turbo) cars in the same class.

I don't know enough about your car to comment on what class it may fall into, but others might ... anyone?

It is registered. But I wouldn't mind having it log booked anyway. The Boaks would know.

Hmm

That's a handy feature in the entry system. I love that you can order the list as well.
I may still enter, as my competitor for 2nd place in 2C has not entered and has already missed 1 round through the year just like me.
Porsche GT3, MX-5, Porsche GT3 will look good on the records. :)

I'm guaranteed 3rd regardless, which would be the same result since I started doing Sprints in 2012.

A CAMS logbook includes a classification for the vehicle, which is quite distinct from it's supersprint class.
Most MX-5s are classified as 2A, 2B of 2F, depending upon their level of modification.

I suspect you are actually querying which supersprint class best suits your car.
If it were a standard SE, then it would best fit in supersprint class 1C, however, as it is actually a modified NB I suspect you will be in supersprint class 2C or 3C, depending on mods and turbo restrictions.

I suggest you read the supersprint regs for types 2 & 3. The NSW version is here
http://supersprints.com.au/rules-and-regulations/2015/2015%20Vehicle%20Regs.pdf

Not sure if there is an equivalent national regs doc.

The main (only?) advantage of having a log booked car at supersprints is that you only need to get your driving gear checked at scrutineering, and don't need to line up to get your car checked. If your car is selected for targeted scrutiny, the scrutineers will visit you during the day to check the car. So, it saves a little time in the morning.

Supp regs for the National Championships reflect the NSW championship classes:

As of today, 18th Sep, only 12 entries from MX-5 Club of NSW members.
Is anyone else from the NSW club planning to enter?
if not, what is holding you back?

Putting up with 2 days and 140 runners is too much for me.

The money it was going to cost for entry and accommodation is going towards 2 days at Winton in November which is something I haven't done yet :) http://tamperedmotorsport.com/tms/?trib ... -track-day

In missing it I'm pretty much forfeiting 2nd in 2B since I already skipped the NSWRRC North circuit round earlier in the year.

Bump.

Only 85 entrants so far. Would be great to see some Victorians and Queenslanders supersprinters make the trip.

It is now up to 94 entrants and entries don't close until 12th November with semi-reasonable price entry closing 7th November.

Since the other Porsche has entered I'm not going to punish myself, so I'm not entering.
As with Dan, I don't see the point in paying that much for what may likely be 2 painful slow days.
Will likely do a Bathurst hill climb instead in November as I missed out on doing one last year.

Just put an entry in and I am number 96 - may be appropriate for those who remember old TV shows.

Seems like a good place to give my re-built motor it's first competitive run !!!

I only remember two things about that show ...

Good to see you in Peter! If Luke is right, it might be a gentle introduction for the new mechanicals ... on the other hand, I am betting we get plenty of runs on Sunday afternoon, between attrition and people packing up early.

The Motor Event Entry site is reporting 94 entrants, which I think is unchanged for the last few weeks.

I can't see it getting anywhere near 140 between now and 13th Nov, more likely around 100.
This is the risk of hosting the last round of the season, as those with no chance of a championship place are less enthusiastic than earlier in the season, and also of running a supersprint at Wakefield, as it is apparently too far from Sydney for many.

100'ish entrants will probably work out to 9 run groups.
With 7 run groups at a Wakefield Park supersprint we usually get 5 or 6 runs in a day, so the maths suggests that with 9 run groups we should see at least 8 to 10 runs over the weekend, probably with lots available on Sunday afternoon as Ed suggests.
