Track Set Up Help

Hi All,

I am just starting to get my NB8A 10AE (turbo) set up to start some track work like super sprints etc. I am currently running 225/50 15 Advan AO50's, Bilstien PSS9 (not sure of the spring rate, I have a racing beat tubular front sway bar (1.125" I think) and still running the stock rear bar.

Can anyone running similar tyres provide a little insight into the alignment they are running. How much negative camber are you able to get on the front? What sort of toe and caster? Does anyone run the adjustable camber arms / camber kits? If so what would you recommend for more camber?

If you have a lot of experience on the track and setting up you car an can provide some insight it would be much appreciated. If there is a thread I should look at please let me know. Thanks.

I was running pretty much the same setup ;) with a lot less power probably. Nb8b pss9s and A050s. You want around 3 deg of neg camber all round, but you generally can't get more than 2 without some customisation. Toe in? Can't remember, but some at the front zero rear. (Set those pss9s close to max hard). The issue with the nb is dialling out understeer.

Get yourself a tyre pyrometer you can tell so much about your alignment by using one.

However, the 949 alignment is a good place to start.

You can use eccentric bushes in the front for more camber or adjustable camber arms in the rear. However camber will depend on tyres being used as well as temperatures.

225/50 are too tall. Buy 225/45/15 and 9" rims. I never had an issue with Oem adjustability for camber or any settings. Bring your car to get set up properly and corner weighted. If your in melbourne I can give you a guys details.

A050's don't come in 225/45
There is no harm in a 225/50 when you have turboes for power. Also, larger rolling diameter theoretically could mean larger tyre contact patch.

Contact patch size will remain unchanged, however the shape of the contact patch will change.

Contact patch is influenced by the weight of the car, the tyres distribute the cars weight, since weight is unchanged the contact patch surface area will not change. A skinny tyre will have a longer contact patch this will give more grip when going forward, think drag car. A wider tyre will have a wider contact patch hence more corner grip, think F1.

Mark that only holds true in a perfect world. I think you will find tire wall strength and and the ability to change pressures to suit makes the practical application different.

The answer may depend on whether this a (A)track only car, or (B) a track and road car that you only drive to the track, or (C) a track and regular road car?

That's not racing. It's negligence by the Subaru driver. I hope he paid all the costs.
