Is there any interest in doing a team from Queensland? http://www.6hourrelay.com.au/

Q. What licence do I require to take part in this event?
A. As the Victorian 6 Hour Regularity Relay is not a race but a regularity competition you only require an L2S or L2SJ to be able to compete.

As a prerequisite, all 2SJ licence holders MUST have competed at the Phillip Island Grand Prix Circuit in some form of competition, within the past 12 months or they will be required to participate in an observed practice session during practice for this event. Proof of prior participation in an event at Phillip Island must be presented at documentation. (A set of results, or notations in activity section of licence, which must have been signed off by a senior official of that meeting, will be accepted).

The 6-Hour Regularity Relay is on at Philip Island this weekend.
Weather is looking interesting, particularly for Sunday.
Does it rain often at Philip Island? :-)
(for the sarcasm challenged, that was not a serious question)

Last year it Bucketed down on Sat and was perfect weather on Sun. Probably about 2 hours of safety cars if it rains hard.

There were five "NSW MX5 Club" teams in this event, including one team entered by Bathurst Light Car Club (I think) members who are also Club members, Teams numbered 41 to 45. A capacity field of 50 teams took the start.

Congratulations to the Panorama Mountain Men (45), who claimed the middle step on the podium, with a great second place. Drivers Tony, Stewart, Glen, Russ, and Team Manager Brendon - well done, take a bow!!

Phillip Island Supersprinters (44) came 11th, beating Just Regular Guys (42) in 12th by a nose, Blue Mountains Mazda (43) came 29th, and MX5 Club NSW (41) came 38th.

The Mountain Men demonstrated the truth in the adage that, to do well, you must not get any penalties, and alone of the five teams scored zero penalties (in fact, the first 10 placegetters scored no penalties).

Team 41 scored only one penalty during the 'race', which would have put them on the podium, but it was not to be, as a post-race penalty took them right out of contention. However adversity is a hill to be climbed, and they will be back to unseat the Mountain Men in 2016!!

Thanks to Stewart for his good work, to the team managers, timers, and all the support crew, without ALL of whom (literally) it could not have happened.

Good write up Ed. Team 41 was in 7th place with 1 penalty lap at 3:00pm. They would have finished in the same spot if the 50 lap penalty had not been applied.

A top 10 would seem like a podium, compared to what we ended up with  :( (I think I overlooked that detail of a penalty lap when I did my calculation, or else my maths are just lousy).

Woulda, coulda, shoulda, 2015 has been run and won ... roll on 2016.

You're not wrong Ed. My team of Just Regular Guys were very disappointed to score two penalty laps (by 0.14s in both cases), and not collect enough bonus laps in the morning. If we'd reached our target of 100 bonus laps and zero penalties we would have been on the podium too. Woulda, coulda, shoulda as you say. But what it does show is that our strategy was spot on for this rather strange and nerve-wracking regularity format.

For those who weren't there, the team 41 post-race penalty was a consequence of an overtaking incident at the turn just before pit entry, is that turn 11?, in which our team member and the other driver were adjudged to be equally at fault, and each were given a 50 point penalty. From the in-car video I have seen, I don't think our team member was substantially at fault.
I would really like to put together a compilation of all the instances on Sunday where I went past other cars there in similar circumstances, and send a link to the stewards demanding they impose an additional 50 point penalty on me for each instance!

But seriously, it does raise some concern for me about what constitutes "competition room" (see supp regs 5.2.5) that I would to clarify before the 2016 event. I made similar passing moves, plus others which much higher risk (ie around the outside at Southern Loop in the wet), and was always given room, but may have to be more reserved in future based on the definition of "competition room".
