Mods to Power Steering

Has anyone made any modification to their p/s unit. Reason I ask is my race car used to be raced with no p/s. I have recently put the p/s back on the car but it's made the steering so light I was hoping to make it feel a little heavier.
Is it possibly to change something to achieve a better feel.

Seriously though, with this mod am I right to think the steering will be heavier but not as heavy as without p/s.
This mod is beyond my abilities anyway. Does anyone know of a workshop that can do this mod or better still has done this previously.

At speed the steering is not heavy and gives very good feedback. At low speeds you just need to remember to move then turn and not turn then move, simple!

John I had the power steering go on me half way through a race on the November round at WP. Bit of a shock but once I was used to it, was fine, managed not to lose any places :mrgreen:

But (now its fixed) I won't be taking mine out anytime soon, despite being told 100 times to do so lol. Unlike some of the other guys I am not built like a gorilla. :)

Interested to see how it is if you get this mod done

once the rack is de-powered properly it is much lighter than say removing the pwr steering belt or looping the lines

its only slightly heavier than the manual rack due to it being quicker

Have you considered sitting closer to the wheel? Many people sit further back making steering effort harder (I used to be one until driver training changed it). Moving closer will feel odd and cramped at first but give it a bit and it will feel normal.

Magpie, my steering is very heavy at speed and is not quite that simple.
Sailaholic, I do sit up close to the steering wheel.
My car has some mods done to the a-arms which makes me wonder if some of my issues are because of these mods. Hmmm.

Caster will have a huge impact as will sticky tyres to some extent.

I'd say the mods are worth a re look. I've drĂ­ven a depowered car and find it only heavy below ~40km/h. Having said that, it wasn't lap after lap on a race track.

I have close to 6* of caster on my car and a depowered rack. My gf drives it. She hates it... I drove a 5 with a manual rack recently. Steering was so light!

I would say de-power it properly and don't run as much caster if you're worried about steering weight.

My car has 7 degrees of caster and with slicks the steering is so heavy I can barely hold on after 12 or so laps. Repeat that for 4/5 sessions and I'm stuffed. No chance of doing the W300 in my car. Now before everyone jumps down my throat and tells me why are you running so much caster the story is because my wheel alignment shop which is well known but won't be mention here doesn't listen to simple instruction. I asked for 4/5 I got 7. I've been to this person many times before, not cheap. When I asked why didn't you give me what I asked for his response was that it won't make that much of a difference.
I tried someone else but this guy was a moron.
