Hi peeps
Can anybody recommend a window net?

I have to say I do not like the idea of introducing short lengths of metal rod into the cabin, as used by some systems. When things get crazy - as in when you need the net to do its bit and you are thrashing around in a roll or some such - I do not want short lengths of metal rod near me. Can anyone recommend one which attaches with the webbing only?

And a second question ..while I have your attention - roll bar padding. Is it flammable? Some of the brands say FIA compliant, but is that addressing flammability?

First up, what competition are you doing????

If it is for CAMS circuit racing events, you don't need a window net as an MX5 is considered an open car.

Have a good read of the full general conditions for automobiles, there are 14 appendices and 2 sections detailing what you need to do to race in cams events, full door to door, for any category. http://www.camsmanual.com.au/10_gen_req.asp

If you have a full cage with intrusion bars then the net can be mounted failry easily so the net iss attached to the forward stay loop and is attached at the bottom with the release mechanism, you throw the net up and onto the roof to get out.

Have a look at what other owners have done at CAMS events to mount nets if they are using them to get a better idea of what will and won't work.

The FIA roll bar padding will be flame resistant to the standards required by CAMS and the FIA, so it is best to run this. It won't be fire proof, but will take longer to ignite than most non-compliant padding.

AASA/ MRA/FOSC so it is not required there either, but I get pretty (very!!) hot and have to have the window open so want the net regardless.

Any pointers on brands? I have seen several and all have the rod across the top, whereas I figure I will either secure the net to the bottom intrusion bar and hook to the bar of the cage across the top of the door line - or as per the configuration you mention where secures at the top and attaches/detaches at the bottom.

You know you can buy itty bitty little knives to cut yourself out if tangled? Great thought isn't it sawing away at the net with a wee little blade, while who knows what is going on around you.....

Are you talking about a harness cutter or something else? I've been thinking that wouldn't be a bad idea if you're in a situation where the harness buckle was stuck and you need to get out. Assuming they're sharp enough it should only be one or two swift movements.

That's the one. Handy little gizmo which you don't want to have to use.
