Hi all,

I was going to wait until later in the year but.
I've got a small group of guys together and raised a little capital.
We will be putting a mx5 racing group in Brisbane next year. We are hoping to run in three different groups.
Basic ideas.
Group 1. Up to 120hp at the rear wheels
Group 2. Up to 160hp at the rear wheels
In these groups you will be allowed so many points for mods like L.S.Ds, aero, ECU, semis, big brakes, min weight,wider than 7' wheels etc. Much like the USA.
You can run a turbo, S/C, ITBs, we will even allow NCs.
F.Y.I. if you cheat, you will be made to wear a t-shirt that states. "I'm a whinny bottom, who can't drive, so I had to cheat"It's poo brown with yellow writing.
Group 3. Is the Open/balls out group, run what ever the hell you want. If you can buy it , bolt on or make it, you can run it.

Gslender and myself will be building a web site, to out line a lot more, (Well lets be honest Grant will be building it). When he gets back form Japan.

This will be up and running for 2014 have to be positive , we are really hoping that we can/need get a 1/3 of the guys in the mx5 club to run. We need at least 10 cars on the grid, would love 15-20.(Makes the party at the end of the year much better than a bag of chips).
Are aim is good fun, safe, cheap, innovative, no force passing or blocking, entry level grass routes motor sport.

Grant and I are sure this could work, plenty of people have talked about, we just want to make it happen! We just need your support

So any ideas, Comments good or bad, feel free. We are happy to listen and make this, for the drivers. We want this to work and be fun!

FYI this was though up over a couple of cold beers and still seemed like a good idea in the morning.

I would love to do it, but too far away. So I was thinking if you could share your ideas and all the associated details. We could run the exact same series here in vic, with the same rules. That way maybe once or twice a year there could be some interstate competition. I love the idea of using the American points system for mods. Makes sense to me.

We are open to any ideas!
Also a spec class is another idea as well. Looks like a few blokes are moving on with there mx5s in production as other cars are becoming better options, so we are hoping that this form of racing will keep those cars on the track.
Plus the guys with the really modded cars, who can't run in a standard class, who just want to run, to see how good there cars really are.

Umm we already have a class of racing in Brisbane for MX5's, it comes under the general umbrella of Prodsports.

Some will disagree with the rules, but genarally allows relativelay cheap racing, unless you want to be the best and win the plastic cup, well then go stupid and spend the squillions to do so.

It also allows other cars to compete and there are other sports cars out there than MX5's. They are a car, nothing flash, I have owned a few sports cars from Zeds to MX5's to proper sports cars, like Turners, how many know of that Marque????

A new series will be lots of dollars and what rules are you going to run to when AASA won't be enough, ie 1 hour races or interstate meetings. Plus what about things like insurance, not bending the car but bending you? CAMS have quite a good insurance coverage that allows for paying you to get better after a stint in hopital, does AASA meetings?? Plus CAMS covers your pit crew. I'm pretty sure AASA doesn't. CAMS categories covers all this under the prod sports umbrella.

How will you go when you have to stump up the cash to run a full grid at either Lakeside or QR and at Morgan Park you need to be a CAMS category. PSCRAQ had enough dramas in trying to put together a seseaon and they regularly have 20+ entrants playing. I will be ineterseted to see iif you can get enough pplayers let alone a place to play.

In my opinion why try to do something that is already successful and caters for all. If your car doesn't comply to the rules, sorry but you should have done research before spending the dollars. That's why i am building an S14 to play again after losing off my Z. And it will be quicker than a 5 for less cash....

AASA covers pit crew:

"Personal Accident - drivers, relief drivers, pit crew and officials are covered by
personal accident insurance."

Is it possible to run either in conjuction with PSCRAQ or QR sprints with a seperate scoring system based on your idea? This way you do not need to compete for entries plus get to piggy back on the existing infrastructure.

This is just a idea, if people don't want it, we won't do it.

As on the cash front, I will be me putting my hand in my pocket for the 20k or so to get it running. Insurance is Insurance, as a person who runs a a couple of companys it's nothing new. We will make sure people are coved, I don't want to lose my house.

The last thing we want to do is upset people, nor do we want to take a way from PSCRAQ, who are a great bunch of people who run a great form of racing. We are not going after there form of racing. This is not 2f racing.

Prod sports is not fun. Not in a 5 and the rules are lame and make no sense.

We'd love it if you wanted to participate in 2014 and any advice on how to get going is appreciated. Keen to keep the nay-sayers to a minimum so keep your feedback positive if you can, but really appreciate the insight to the challenges we face.

Imagine if Apple though that about entering the phone market... I'd be typing this on a Swedish junk with a keyboard the size of a bees dick!

I have been looking for somewhere to race ever since PSCRAQ made it quite obvious that my intercooled supercharged street registered NA and its driver was unwelcome as it was not 2f or 2b compliant [ however any NB could be turned into a Se or SP and have a hairdryer fitted that would run a JUMBO jet and it was ok ] now the class is no longer the home of MX%'s but Corvetts , Nissans Skylines, Porches , M3 Bmw's ect
My big hope that the races will be on weekends , I have already started the preperation for the first event

Im in if the budget allows it which by then should be fine.

Points based racing system is the way to go no question.

It means that people can bring a car that wasnt designed for a class specifically and choose the most effective mods that cost little money, like big tyres or aero.

What I mean is that unlike the current series available where you need to consult the rulebook and build a car, here anyone can take their modified car and just add a few cheap but effective mods, that are expensive in points but cheap in dollars.

Door-to door racing isn't for me whereas 'track days' are fine - like to see a 'hands up' on Monday 21st just for you to get a feeling for it

Let's face it, it's the next level up, NO WAY would the average peddler be able to get his/her NB around like the Ash Miller MX5 in 2F

What are the things that require investment in terms of getting a new series off the ground??

I presume his series is to be aimed at the budget concious? Would you need to set up an initial fund as opposed to stumping up all the $ yourself

At the end of the day how you set the rules shold encourage close racing with similar cars, and may the best driver win.
I like the idea of a power to weight ratio as a starting point.
That way driving and chassis set up is the key.

Not sure how far you would go, control tyres etc etc?

I have registered with the PSCRAQ series this year, it will be my first go at racing, so dont have any bias from what pscraq does or does not do as far as rules etc.

I just want to turn up have close racing, with good people.
