Looking for an android lap timer.
Been using Racechrono but switched to an android phone.
The only one I've found that looks the goods is aLapRecorder HD which is in demo mode until I buy the $6.50 upgrade.

Anyone using it?

The ones that I've got on my phone are aLapHD, ChronoGPS, Race Ace and Trackmaster. I used ChronoGPS at the Nurburgring :) where it performed well, but I haven't had the opportunity to use the others yet. aLapHD seems to be the goods if you can mount your phone to get video, too, but probably the biggest thing with any of them from a lap timing perspective would be to use them with a 5 Hz external GPS receiver. It would be interesting to open all of them at once and simultaneously compare their respective accuracy against official timing.

Nevertheless, I'm also interested in hearing others' opinions.

I have gearzy lap timer lite (FREE). I haven't used it at the track yet, just played around with it driving around. Seems pretty good, though it has crashed a few times.

Racechrono has just put out an update to its Android version. It's absolutely stunning. Lap review maps now show Vmins, Vmaxs and colour coded braking areas for every corner and straight by default overlaid on the satellite photo. Check it out if you've got some old session files.

When you start racechrono you get the big red button 'Start', right? Press that, and it will use your location to try to find the nearest tracks to you. You can also press the 'select track manually' button and pick from either tracks youve saved as favourites, or if you press on Library at the top you can filter by country and go from there. Pick your track, and the live timer will appear after a few seconds. It will already have splits etc for the track. It is possible to make your own splits I believe, but I don't know how.

I haven't used it on track yet, will be trying it out at Lakeside in 2 weeks. It's worthless for track position/lines/corner speed if you are using internal GPS, but should give you reasonably accurate lap/split times.

Yes, use racechrono on an Android. Nothing on iphone is any good.
Easy to use.

Do yourself a favour, don't use your phones built in GPS, get a Qstarz 818 bluetooth GPS.

If you can't work it out, come find me in the White/Black NB8B at Phillip Island.

Exactly. Bought qstarz bt-q818xt from eBay, did the 5hz update and works brilliantly.

Had difficulty with auto find track but once I hit choose manually the right track shows up. Did NSW Wakefield and Marulan fine.
