I'd suggest cos most people dont buy a MX5 for its straight line ability....

Certainly not as many draggers out there as circuit people in the MX5 community, but they are out there.
Not exactly what you're looking for but I assume you've seen
this thread?

Well, I'm only speaking for myself, but going in a straight line for ten or fifteen seconds doesn't float my boat as far as motorsport is concerned; but each to their own.
Having said that, I don't mind watching the top fuel jobbies occasionally on Speedweek. They're awesome bits of gear; some of the numbers are amazing.

I wouldnt mind giving my NA8 turbo a run down the strip. I have never done it before.
Actually I can really really see the attraction to doing it. You have to be able to launch your car pefectly with enough tyre slip to not bog down but not so much as to have a slow get away. You then have to be able to change gear perfectly. Most club level drag events I have seen require you to do a practise run and then nominate your times for the event with penalties for being over / under those times so you need to be damn consistant and you need to really know your car. It's a bit more than just flooring it.
The last event I went to was a 'nominate your times' type event with a crazy mix of cars. The professional / experienced looking guys in 'proper' drag cars that could do silly times all got knocked out very early and the overall winner was a bloke in an ancient and very stock standard Volvo 240. His runs lasted something like 25 seconds but his reaction times were incredible and he was bang on with his predictions and remained consistant.

For a rough guide, the best WHEELS magazine ever achieved for 400m was 17.0s (Apr 1990 and Jul 1992 issues). They test with a passenger in the car too. I wouldn't have thought that an LSD would help on the drag strip?
