CAMS 2F Minimum Weight Question
I am struggling to find a clear answer in the CAMS Manual regarding minimum weights.
2F section clearly states this.
Racing Weight* Maximum Rim Width Maximum Diameter
up to 930 kg 7” 16”
931 - 1280 kg 8” 17”
above 1280 kg 9” 18”
* See Definitions - Technical (refer “General Requirements for Cars and Drivers”).
which gives this definition.
RACING WEIGHT The weight of the automobile during or immediately after a competition
including the driver wearing all normal racing apparel including helmet. No
materials, liquid or otherwise, may be added prior to weighing.
So since I am a round figure of 110 Kg and assuming my helmet, boots, etc are 5 Kg
and I finish the race with 5 Kg worth of fuel.
If my car by itself weighs 811 Kg then I am within the regulations or am I misundertanding them.

CAMS 2F Minimum Weight Question
I didn't think there was a minimum weight to be allowed to complete so long as no illegal changes were made to reduce that weight. Besides from the way you've specified it if your less than 930kg you can race... you just can't have wheels at the time .
I've never heard of anyone having to use ballast either at the track or on these forums.

CAMS 2F Minimum Weight Question
There is no minimum weight limit for 2F cars....if you are under 930kg. it just means you can only run 7inch or less wheels on your car...you are better off being over 930kg so you can run 8inch wheels.
I reckon it would be hard for a 2F legal NA to be 811kg.

Even the lightest 2F NA here in QLD still weighs in at around 900kgs.

CAMS 2F Minimum Weight Question
Interesting that the racing weight includes driver and gear. That means all 2F MX5s are legal with 8" rims...

CAMS 2F Minimum Weight Question
That is interesting. As the opening paragraph of section 10.1 makes reference to "the vehicle weight", I'd always assumed the weights were in relation to the cars weight only. Never noticed that asterisk before.

From my experience, you will not get a dry 2F car under about 940kgs without cheating.

CAMS 2F Minimum Weight Question
That does seem hard to believe.
My car weighs in at around 1000kgs with about 15 litres of fuel in it. I could lose the 23kg hardtop, about 20kgs in fluids, and probably about another 25-30kgs in parts, which would bring me down to about 925kgs, but I can't for the life of me see how I could shed another 75kgs out of it?

CAMS 2F Minimum Weight Question
I'm surprised yours is not over 1000. Mine was 995 at the nationals last year with no hardtop and about 10L of fuel. You have a hell of a lot more cage than me too.

CAMS 2F Minimum Weight Question
Pretty sure mine was 1007kg on the Morgan Park scales last year and I've since taken out about 7kgs. I guess we'll find out in September
