Is Darren Berry ok ?

Postby Red 2f MX5 » Sat Oct 11, 2008 6:23 pm

Anybody that has been watching Bathurst today would of seen the huge accident in the Mini challenge race.

Darren berry was the driver. (A MX5 racer)

Does anybody know if he is ok ?

It was a big accident.

They had to cut the roof off the car to get him out.

I hope he is ok. If anybody has any news please let us know.

Cheers
Brett

He is ok.

However he will need surgery on his ankle and he is a bit brused and sore.

Hi all,

Just spoke to him and overall he's doing ok. He was operated on yesterday to pin the ankle. He will be discharged today and head home for some R&R. He is badly bruised and pretty sore but knowing Darren he will be back on top in no time.

No doubt we will see him again on track soon. :)

That's good news. I was in the mini pits on saturday chatting to a few guys and was going to say hi but I couldn't find him. There was some seriously smashed cars over the weekend. The yellow holden (ex skaife HRT car) that turned in front of the god squad below skyline in the Fujitsu race was a total writeoff. The god squad car is on the verge of repairable. I saw Paul Weels car - he is lucky to be alive. We have telemetry that shows an off in practice just after hitting a top speed of 291kph through the entry to the chase in the Oporto Fujitsu car. It is a very serious place indeed.

Best wishes to Darren on a speedy recovery.

He's on his way home and sounded in pretty good spirits. Will keep you updated once I see him.

Can't say as much for the car. This is the car I raced at Eastern Creek. Looks a tad different now.

Damn! I'd heard they had to peel the roof back to get him out.

It was good to hear he was ok and that he's heading home.

Paul.

Yep and if I can afford it he has offered me a drive of the Aussie Racing Car. Mind you, the entry fee is $2500/round. Figured I'd run somewhere you couldn't otherwise run, like Clipsal.

He's got an Aussie Race Car as well

Great news about the Viper. I've always been a keen follower of the GT series and would love to see another 24 hour race at Bathurst (still one of the best motorsports events I've attended).

I'd be keen to travel to a few of the GT events and lend a hand if Darren needs one.

Is he thinking of doing the first round at Clipsal? You thinking about Clipsal this year?

Paul.
