Really noisy lifters

Postby Red 2f MX5 » Tue Jul 08, 2008 3:09 pm

Just started the race car to move it next door for some work to be done. The lifters were really noisy. They have been a bit noisy before but this was really noisy. Anything i can do apart from changing the lifters. Don't have time for that. Might be up at QLD with a rattling car.

Cheers

The noise will go away once you warm it up and drive it a bit...I would not worry.
NC Roadie, NC Racey, ND Racey….and a 30AE

Plus several others in the bone yard...

I thought that might be the case. It was real noisy though. Just going to change the oil. I tried some Fuchs 20/60. Had it in there for 2 race meetings and it has gone pretty dark. I usually change it every 2 meetings anyway.
Can anyone recomend an oil. It is not a stock motor. 2F specs. 210 HP.
I will probably go back to the Castrol 10/60 unless somebody says otherwise.

Cheers

Mine makes a hell of a din if it's been sitting. We just use Castrol 10/60.

Yeah it's been sitting for a while.
I will put the Castrol back in.
That's 210 HP at the motor. I wish it had 210 at the tyres. Another 50 hp at the tyres imangine how awsome they would be to drive.
Just putting a camera in for the V8's. Might not get to race at a big meeting like that again so have to get it on camera. Usually race in front of about 10 people in the grandstand. It's going to be good to be part of such a big meeting. I feel a bit nervous, and i never get nervous for a race meeting.
CAN'T WAIT. Apart from the drive up there. I hate long drives. I might be doing it by myself now aswell. Dad probably won't be coming as my brother got mugged and bashed in Perth while he was there for work and is not in good shape. Trying to get a mate to come up with me but not sure if he can get off work.

Cheers
Brett

Yeah just put the Castrol in and see what happens.

I know it's 210 at the fly. I'm only making about 200, hence my comment.

I always run a camera. You never can tell when the action is about to start.

Sorry to hear about your brother.

What did you end up doing about accom?

Check the level of your oil too. They don't like it when the level get's lower!

Must be an illegal motor

That suck about your brother. Hope he's OK

If its just going to be you, you should cancel your accommodation and stay with Cal.

You should be nervous as its a big stage to F%ckup on

210 hp, I wish!

Seriously. my stock motor with 140,000ks on it, would be lucky to have 120hp at the flywheel

I use the Castrol Edge 10w/60 as well and it is pretty noisy on startup until the oil gets to the top of the engine.

Sorry, to hear about your brother, hope he's ok.

The offer of the bed at my place is still open if you need it.

Paul.

By the way Brett, what camera did you end up putting in the car?

Staying about 15 minutes from the track. So i suppose thats about 15 minutes or so from you guys. Definantly keen for a beer at the end of days play.
Andrew who works for my Dad is coming up for the trip and i have a mate that lives at the Gold Coast who is going to pop over as well.
In my old car i just used a little Sony handy cam mounted up on a really sturdy bracket a fabricator made up for me. Was just going to do the same. I also have one of those G0 Pro cameras sitting on my desk.
Paul next time you are down hear on a Friday practice jump in my car for some laps. You will love it. Maybe even come down for the Eastern Creek 1 hour and do that with me. After watching your in car footage i have no problems with letting you drive my car. Have a think about it.
Cheers

I'm pretty keen on the Go Pro units myself, have you used it yet to see how it goes?

That's an awesome offer mate, thanks. I am seriously tempted, would love a crack at the creek. I'll talk the other half and see what sort of response I get. I'll PM you soon.

Paul.

I have seen a friends Go Pro and it was good. It was only on a lap top so not sure what the quality would be like on a bigger TV.

Plenty of time to talk the Mrs into coming down for a weekend. Pretty cheap return flights these days.

Cheers
Brett
