LSD or Torsen

Postby Red 2f MX5 » Thu Jun 05, 2008 9:35 am

I am putting a Torsen diff into my 2F racecar. It had a LSD (clutch type) in it. Never used a Torsen before. How different will they be on the track.

Cheers

Personally I am not a fan of the torsen diffs. The factory one in my Clubman would single spin at times, normally because the inside rear tyre was getting light.
It only occasionally did it on the street but would often do it on the track, normally through slower corners. This probably had something to do with my driving style and suspension setup. I was running Kings/Konis and 205/50/15 RE55S tyres on 15x7s. 160rwkw probably also had something to do with it.
I would much rather run a clutch type LSD myself, as I have experienced the same issues in my previous club car (Datsun 1600) which I changed from a torsen to a clutch pack.

I would not be putting Torsen in the race car...like Jake said as soon as you lift a wheel it just spins...

Definately need a good clutch diff or spool...
NC Roadie, NC Racey, ND Racey….and a 30AE

Plus several others in the bone yard...

Can you run a spool in 2F.
Is the diff free for 2F. Have not checked the CAMS manual on diffs.
I was quite happy with the clutch type LSD but thought i would try the torsen to compare. I know a lot of the 2F cars do run the Torsen.
Anyway the Torsen is now in and i will try it at the FoSC meeting next week and compare it to the LSD.
If it's no good i will put the LSD back in.
