Oran Park - Last chances

Postby mightyrollaman » Mon Jan 28, 2008 3:39 pm

I know I've posted a similar topic before, but the whole thing has been delayed by at least two years. Can't find anything using the search either.

Anyway, back to the point, it seems that Oran Park will be finally closing its doors to become a suburb some time after the V8 round in December this year.

What are the current options for taking your street car there?

I know TrackCorp do days there but they require CAMS licenses and R spec tyres etc. Most importantly, they cost $425.

I really want to check it out before they install the letterboxes along the track.

Cheers.

Latest word is that the State Government is so far behind in providing infrastructure (water, sewer, power) for that area of Sydney that Oran Park will be operating for at least another 12 months after the day you have suggested.

If you enter for the State Supersprint ($50 rego fee) Championships you can have a run at Oran Park on 30 March, 1 June, 16 August, 14 September and 18 October. That should satisfy any urge you have.

There is a Track day this Friday on the GP, run by Ian Luff. I think it is $350.00 and you get a lot of driver training plus a lot of track time.
I am doing the day with my son David and a few other people.
Another great way to get some track time and training is to do your OLT with Peter Finlay at OP. 2 days but it costs $750.00, worth every cent.

When we were there earlier in the month Geoff told us the track was still going to be open \"till at least December next year\"

Oran Park has regular private practice days where anyone with a L2S or higher can go. Costs $130 for the day and the available days are listed here -

http://www.oranpark.com.au/private.html

Also get your name added to the mailing list as late minute cancellations do happen and the track will be available at late notice.

If you get really lucky you can practice on the full GP circuit.

Most of the Luffy, Finlay ones only use the short circuit.

This type of track is a dying breed with them all slowly fading away so if you have never been do yourself a favour and have a go.

OP in a MX5 is awesome and you will surely show up some more fancied machines.........

Cheers, sounds like I needn't stress too much. So keen to get there though.
