what are my other options? I'm after road legal but dedicated track tyres(need to be able to drive from home to Queensland Raceway on 'em)
The missus has given the OK on the R888s but @ $400+/wheel, I wanna check my options!!
Don't need tyres for the road.....yet.
Rim Size: 17x7
Standard tyres are: 205/40/17
Falken Azenis 615s are out based on the info I've been given(fancy road tyre, not a track tyre)
Your thoughts please ladies and gents

$400/wheel
They were $225/wheel for 205x15. I can't imagine they are THAT much different for 17s.
Tyretec at Albion is the place to go. Tell them you are a club member and give them a nudge for a discount.

Yoko 048.
215/45/17
$368 each from your local Yoko motorsport guy.
The bigger they are the much more expensive they get.

Yeah, that's what I figured and tried that on......"nah mate, we're the distributors in QLD blah, blah, blah"....$417/fitted/balanced/old tyres binned!!
Wish I'd looked into this before buying the 17x7 Enkei

.......
Boyracer: The Yokos, whats your opinion on them against the R888s?

Just a thought but if you plan to use 17\"x7\" there is no way you will get the same tyre aspect ratio with R-comps as they are a higher aspect ratio. Thus you will find that your overall rolling circumference will be bigger by approx 92.6mm or 9.26cm which will throw the speedo out approx 5%.
When you're doing 100km/h, its actually 105km/h.
Of course, if its a race car only and never sees street use then not such a big deal (except speed limits in the pits).
However, you indicated that you will drive home after your track days and thus the difference in speedo reading should be kept in mind.

Dunlop D01, D02, Bridgie RE055. Kumho, Hoosier, Falken, Continental all make a R type radial which is road legal. On the SE, you would be wise to drop down to a 16 or 15 inch set of wheels for track work only. Will save money on tyres as well as the wheels.

Very good advice. Unfortunately he already bought the 17x7s
Might even save you money to sell them and start again? Or take them back to the nice man who sold them to you and ask to swap

I'm interested to find out what people think of the A048. I currently have Dunlop DO1 which I am very happy with. I used to have bridgestone 520s and the dunlops are a huge improvement. They are at the end of their life now and am looking at the DO2 or the A048. I am reluctant to go to A048 as I know the dunlops (can get different compunds, yokos only come in one) are proven.
So anyone had DO1s and now A048s...experiences? Price difference also $320 ea fitted (dunlop) $368 yokos 205/50/15

I had the best lap times on my D02's, followed by D01's and then R881's. The R881's, while not as fast, I found were more user friendly than either of the Dunlops. But different people, different driving styles, different experiences!

Thanks heaps guys
I think I'm gonna go back on my original plan. Just been given a price for a set of the Falken Azenis RT615s and for around $250/wheel, I'm willing to give 'em a crack as the track day tyres.
I'm only doing club track days @ QR - 5 laps at a time. If they die or I'm unhappy with 'em, they can always be used for the road to be killed off and I go back for the Toyo R888s.
$$$ are short and for the sake of 1-2seconds on the track, I'm happy to save the bucks at this stage!
I've read a few posts in different forums including this one regarding the RT615s and overall, everyone seem happy with 'em.
Comments/suggestions welcomed.

Probably a good choice for your situation. It's not like there's a trophy at the end of the day eh? If you can still put a smile on your dial for half the $$$s of the R888s, you're doing well.

Well I picked up the RT-615s today....they look the part! It's wet and they're new so I haven't \"tested\" 'em yet. I'll let ya know how they go.

ASE,
We met on the track day... I'm running the RT 615s and whilst they lack the outright grip of the R compound tyres, they provide more grip than a std road tyre.... I was happy enough with the times I was doing...
Cheers,
T

I have had them back to back... tha A048 grip just as well and seem to wear better than then the medium D01 compound. The super soft d01 however will grip better and wear out quicker
