Anyone Tried the A048 on an MX5 ?

Postby Daz » Tue May 09, 2006 8:07 pm

Still hunting for my next tyre and noticed that no-one seems to run the yokohama A048 ? Any comments ?

The Toyo R888 are $100/corner cheaper.... maybe thats why :)

Are they the replacement fo the AO32R. If So Craig is running them down here in Mod class and loves them, though they are now bald (but only on the outside  ).
#35 Someone spent billions building these roads and you have to drive on the grass!

I use A048R on the front of my 626 and the 888's on the rear. The A048's have a treadwear rating of 60 where as the 888's are 100. ie. so they are somewhat stickier  .

Because my 626 inherently understeers (only slightly after suspension mods) I find that the extra stick available at the front really improves the balance of the car.

I can certainly recommend them.

lurve my 048Rs.

the 32r is an old design casing - its been around for years and years (A008R) , the 48R is stiffer in the sidewall. the support you can get from traction tyres is superb as well - anything you ever want to know about setup and pressures is there for the asking...

Comparing treadwear ratings from different manufacturers is fallacious... There is no set standard.

That explains why a 215/45 R16 Falken RT215 has the same section width as a 195/50 R16 Yokohama A048R
