Here is where I have got so far.

Using steel bar as a base 2x angle brackets extend outwards and attach to 2 x 90 degree angle brackets.

Then positioning the asssembly to allow some seat travel but most importantly so I can reach the damn thing. I'm not as limber as some of you others so I did the acid test

Mount it on the drivers side, then you don't have to worry about leaning over to get it.
Mount it flat and as close to the seat as possible, with no sharp edges that could cut when reaching for the extinguisher in an emercency.

One problem with it mounted on the passenger side is, the ladies. They like to put their bag under there knees rather than down the tunnel where there is limited space and the heat / cool outlet is effected as their bags aren't small. Got to keep them happy.

For Targa we need 2 and we mount them in front of each seat to allow easy access as mentioned by Phil. However if you do mount it in front of the drivers seat its worth putting the release to the back (closest to seat), this will reduce the chance loose shoes, mats, etc can release the clip inadvertantly and have the extinguisher floating around under your feet. For extra security we use a small piece of racetape over the clip which simply tears when the clip is pulled.

On the weekend I will do some more work on it.
Task is to remove the sharp edges and prepare for painting

OK here are the materials that are needed to complete the project from Bunnings. The prototype was not light, because I used heavy duty garden brackets, which shouldn't bother me as I need to lose weight anyway. but this model should be a bit lighter without sacrificing strength.

2 x G Clamps to secure the job at various stages
1 x builders pencil for marking
1 x 18tpi carbon steel hacksaw blade (and a hacksaw)
1 x 1/4 inch dril suitable for drilling steel
1 x 340 x 40 x 3.5mm mending plate Zinc plated Cat no HED9340
2 x Angle Bracket Zinc plated Cat no HED5250
2 x Angle Bracket Cat no HED5125
2 x Angle Bracket Cat no HEB1038
High tensile nut and bolt set 10pc PN 018050
Flat washers brass 1 /4 inch PN EBG4006
Electric or cordless drill
Small mitre box to produce accurate cuts
1mm thick steel bar
1 x magicut file
access to a grinding wheel or angle grinder
access to a drill press more desirable than a hand drill
That will start the job
Primer, paint, wet and dry paper. say P400.

Now if you want to do Regies bracket all you need is the steel bar, nuts, bolts and washers and drill bit. Plus a few extras for marking/holding the job.

Notes
Job to be secure at all times when drilling, cutting, grinding or filing.
This is not an instruction of how to do the job, just what parts you need and how they are laid out. A bit of pain for this job as you will need to unbolt the main bar a couple of times while you are lining things up. But pictures tell a thousand words. And you may find a better way of doing the job than me.

OK lets start with the basic bracket. You need a length of 1mm thick x 1m Gal bar.
These measurements are a guide only. You need to verify them yourself.

You need to cut a length 437mm long . The hole centres for the seat bolts are approx 374mm apart. I did measure my holes by sitting the bar across the two bots and marking the centres of the bolts to the bar.
Then from the drivers side of the bar, cut an angle 45 degrees back to a measurement of 413mm. The reason I did this is that drivers side of the passenger seat bracket goes off at an angle and I wanted to cover the bracket. Smooth off the sharp edges. This is the basic bracket similar to Regies. All you need to is measure the holes for your extinguisher bracket and do a few test fits.

The rest of the bracket is like this. Here we show the top plate with the holes marked for the extinguisher bracket. Unfortunately they didn't match up for the existing holes in the plate.
And the plate wasnt 340mm, it was 342mm. An extra 2mm for nothing. Bargain. By the way that 342 mm fits nicely between the seat rails.

Here are the pics for the bracket as finished (but not painted).

1.Setting the position. You can pick and choose where the mounting holes go for the side rails, the further out the seat can go. This positon gives 3 forward increments.

3.This is the final bracket. I mounted it slightly off-set, that's for my convenience. Now I will finish by cleaning and painting the assembly. I won't do pictures of that, all you need to is point a spray can at it. Turps on a rag is handy for removing the adhesive once the labels are taken off.

So there you are. Now whether this passes scruitineering at track day I don't know. Maybe I will be going home disappointed. But I have had a go at this - it is no feat of engineering. But maybe the go if you don't have access to welding equipment....invention is also the mother of necessity...

It has passed an initial "missus test" but I do not think I'd have this in the car except for track days anyway. Who knows? Like my orange wheels that were supossedly only for track days but they have stayed on. Sigh.
