Or has the dude that made the SP died??

No Mr Horsely hasn't died :D . Although some in the local rotary fraternity wish he would/had  . As they believe that he is the main reason why Mazdaspeed is not readily available in Australia. I don't know whether this is 100% true or just partly true or not at all true.

Cheers,
Danny

just quickly, what are the prices on an import NC in good condition??
also how much harder/easier are they to get around in terms of removing the factory saftey devices (airbags, pretensioners ect) would you bother with the stability control (I understand alot leave ABS on their race cars)?
is there noticibly more room vertically (for cage/head clearance)?
are their any cooling issues (I hear NA and NB racers complaining often)?
how good is the mazda LSD for the NC, are their any alternatives yet?
how different is the actual seating position?
is it easy to get steering wheel boss's for the NC?

Ours start at around $20,000 landed.
SRS airbags and seatbelts are the same to remove as NB's - easy. The Jap RS spec ones also have side bags which come out with the seats. Would I remove them..... without a doubt. A hand hitting your face when the SRS goes off in a road car makes a mess. The same hand hitting a helmet or roll cage ..... ugly.
Jap softop ones dont have stability.
You sit quite low in the NC - even the road cars so the head height issue is not a problem. I'm 6 foot and have a comfortable margin.
NC's the 1st one I've dríven that didnt overheat. We've not had any issues at all yet but havent had a super hot day in full race conditions when you are right behind someone restricting your airflow. Due to the shape of the nosecone and the angle of the radiator the full core is exposed on the NC and Im sure this helps.
Diffs so far have been very good. Temps are very high (over 150 at Bathurst but we run the same oil as the Factory cars (courtsey of Allan Horsley). We are currently having some diff centres built and this should bring the temps down.
Seating pisition is the same just lower.
Steering wheel boss is the same as NA/NB.

Chris.

I meant nobody locally has built a hot NA motor for one.

We've never had an overheating problem since going to the PWR radiator.

There you go again AJ. After the disappointment of the NC's missing the Bathurst 12 Hour race, I opened this thread hoping to read more about the ongoing development of the cars and find that yet again you couldn’t help yourself.

Anyway, the NC race cars look fantastic and I am sure will acquit themselves very well indeed.

Personally I'm incredibly disappointed to have to miss Bathurst where I should have been pitting for Turbo Girl and Turbo Boy. Still, I'll be waiting with baited breath to hear the times come through. It wouldn't take an Einstein to figure that at Bathurst the normally aspirated NCs will be disadvantaged compared to the forced induction cars (SP and SE) - the gap at Wakefield last time around was about 4 secs IIRC so this should blow out further. Nonetheless with further development in suspension and engine power I am sure the superior NC chassis will really shine in the future.

***inserts large wooden spoon to stir the mix**********

Results Wakefield 17 Feb:

Turbo Girl (faux SP) 1:09.13
Dave Hammon (SE) 1:11.14
MX5 Racing (NC) 1:11.33
T. Rix (SE) 1:13.43
K. Zudra (SE) 1:13.66

:D

But you are right. The NC will suffer badly around Bathurst as the SPs & SE will be able to pull away up the mountain and then hold up the NCs coming down the hill, before pulling away down Conrod.

I'm not sure if Chris has solved the speed limiter problem with the Jap ECU but I'm sure if there are enough laps then he'll come powering home as the SP/SEs start to overheat.

Come on Phil - you know no-one has a bigger stirrer then me

You forgot Turbo Boy - FTD on the 17 Feb round (hence my reference to 4 secs quicker)

Car 10 Ashley Slavkovic Mazda MX-5 SP 2001 Silver 1:07.33

This was also only Ashley's second time driving Turbo Boy - imagine what he could do with a bit of practice 8)

edit - Actually I think RussellB (Turbo Boy's owner) actually set FTD in Turbo Girl - a low 1.07 IIRC. But it wasn't recorded as the CoC allowed Russ to have one-off drive to confirm a handling issue with Turbo Girl.

I wasn't going to mention it, but the fastest NC (non race car) was a 1.15.34. Even a Renault and a Ford were quicker then that.

Come on Phil, we need you back at the track to uphold the NC's honour. Goodness knows AJ can't do it

I recon I'm stirring the pot pretty good at the moment. :D There has been plenty of fish biting, from the most unexpected places. :D

The forum has been a bit boring of late. :P This has atleast moved away from the SP / SE yawn that’s gone on now for three years.

We need something fresh to get everyone churned up. 8) Put on your thinking cap.

Ok then............well the NC had to be a massive step up from the NA/NB platform having been derived from the RX-8 platform. Image
