I think I'll be looking for a restrictor as well, not liking my chances on passing the check :frown:

You'll be absolutely fine.

A chainsaw is 94d and an increase in 4 d is a doubling in volume (IIRC from grade 6). I'd think that even the rotary at 4000rpm would be under the limit.

yeah but if they measure it while its going then i'm screwed. past about 5000rpm it really does scream. you would be suprised boags, its quite loud.

actually, i will see if my mate has the meter i need to check it, he might. will let everyone know if i can get one.

The noise regulations are no different to the legal limit. While I was working there, measurements were taken from various points of the facility and then suspect cars individually tested. Testing was as per ADRs. So if your car is road legal, then you won't have a problem. If it isn't road legal, then just drive it accordingly and you won't have a problem. Stick it on wot for second on end, and we will all have a problem as we may not get invited back.

As a guide, our MX5 is just within. The Charade is smack on the limit. Interestingly the MX5 sounds louder than the Charade. We have had cars that are well over the legal limit, but have managed to let them run if they are dríven sensibly. If your car is as powerful as you say, then you will not have a problem turning the wheels at 3500rpm with 15% throttle.

check out a good exhaust shop. Just call around, if they don't sell one they could direct you to somewhere else. I've had a rotary before with aftermarket goods all over it and sure you can plant it and make it loud but you don't go anywhere. I was only beat by a 4wd in the lap times, just control the throttle. It'll be a great learning experience. :) It'll be good to see your car too.

a restrictor will bring you closer (or push you over) the detonation threshold, so dont go revving the crap out of your rotor with one of those on it!!!

Just put a quiet exhaust on it and never have to worry about it again.
