Trackphotos....SE is involved?!?!?! Jebus...I have followed his career for a while and he was always a regular on another forum I use.

Can you delete his name until we get confirmation of what is going on and we can be sure that family knows.

This is just terrible :(

So sad.

Straight ahead at speed at the end of a straight in a well prepared car. You've got to take notice and learn from these things. I just put my car up on stands for a detailed check of brakes, brake lines, suspension linkages. After that will come pedals and throttle linkages.

Completely agree. I have a pre session check, suspension linkages, of course wheel nuts, brakes. But the list keeps getting longer.

To repeat from another thread, horrified at the Bathurst 1000 with the guys heading up the hill with their harnesses loose, and Hans completely useless....

This fatal crash at QR is just horrific it sent shivers up and down my spine when I heard it on the news tonight, I wasn't aware of it until then. Even just typing and thinking of it now sends shivers through my body. Condolences go out to both families involved, what a tradgedy. RIP!

Watching ABC NEWS, seems it was coming into turn 6 which leads back onto the main straight. ABC reports this is the FIRST fatality involving a car at the track

Having suffered 25% burns myself I MAY just understand what he is going through. However, the worst part of burns is the recovery and the burns suit :(

Shocking news. Sadly it looks like the driver is in a bad way too. Hope he recovers.

Must admit that I was wondering what sort of track experience he had, so I did a quick search on Natsoft. Looks like the driver had a few years of occasional experience, appearing in seven sprint/race meetings since 2011 (Porsches only). He came 3rd in one of the races at the Rennsport Porsche Festival at SMP in May this year. Of course, he could also have participated in all sorts of other sprints/racing that are not recorded on Natsoft.

Having the peace of mind to hit the kill switch in a situation like this is something to aim for (....while you grab the handbrake as well, if it was brake failure).

Also reinforces the need to check the kill switch regularly, tends to get forgotten about unless a thorough scrutineer picks on it.

In a cup car at that point of the track you are well over 200km/per hour, Braking point into turn 6, is about 150 meters.You do the maths, There is no way your pulling the hand brake, or hitting the kill switch. Sometimes sh*t happens, it's the risk you take. The kid driving the car is a very good driver and has more racing under his belt than most of us. It's bloody sad.

Agreed. It is tragic.

And it serves as a reminder to do everything you can to have your safety gear in order. Sometimes sh*t IS gonna happen. For the other times it pays to be as prepared as you can.
