1 Read the CAMS manual and make sure what you buy complies - from manual "Motor sport notes A full-face helmet is highly
recommended for a driver of an open car."
2 As others have said try a few on, nothing worse than been uncomfortable
3 Buy the best one you can afford.
You only get one head

Re: Racing Helmet
For the record, CAMS considers an MX5 to be an open car, even when hardtop is attached. Hence CAMS events will require a full face, which is not to say that the scutes will always pick up on it.
EDIT: Not sure where Mrs B found that, I am sure that I have seen a specific requirement re open cars somewhere in CAMS documentation.

I never met a horsepower I didn't like (thanks bwob)

Re: Racing Helmet
Hey thanks for the advice guys.
I have a track day next week, i'm just going to hire a helmet for that day.
I definitely want a full face helmet that is CAMS approved etc also one that is nomex lined.
Any stores close to frenchs forest NSW worth checking out? Or online stores?
Cheers,
Kris

Re: Racing Helmet
I would try a helmet on in a shop before looking to buy online. To be honest I don't think you would save a huge amount of money buying online anyway, I got my partners helmet in a local bike shop that literally had hundreds of helmets to choose from and they started at about $60 for an open face and not much more than that for a closed face.

Re: Racing Helmet
One thing to also be careful of, with regards to poly carb helmets, don't put stickers on them as it can weaken the shell. Something I remember from my Bike days.
Also always buy in person as you will need to try it for size and shape, different helmets in the same size will fit differently. Also make sure it is a snug fit, a lose helmet can be nearly as bad as no helmet - the lining and interior won't be as effective for a start.
If you want lightness but don't want to stretch to full carbon fibre, try carbon/kevlar/aramid blend, good strength with fairly low weight.
