Does anyone have their contact information?
I'm keen to talk to someone about how that association got up and running with a view to attempting something similar happening in NSW.

Matt, I wish you good luck but what you want to achieve is not as easy as it seems. Firstly, you need to have a committed starting grid before a promoter will chance a slot on you. Then you have the hardest task which is to write a set of rules that not only includes as many cars as you can, but also gives all cars a level playing field. QLD has done this via a very strict set of rules in the 2F class. BUT, it will always depend on who has the most money. We have a slot available at the MG meetings and also at another national level event if we want it. And again, the issue is getting committed cars there.
I know of people who \"say\" they are interested (this forum is a good example) but we are yet to see anyone turn up to the track with a new car for quite a while. It's a catch 22, you need the series and exposure to attract cars, but you need the cars to attract exposure and gt a slot in a meeting.
Anyone can turn up in a 2F spec car right now and race at the MG days, Prod Sports and even multi club events if they so desire. Where are you all? You could even make the trip north and support the V8s at Ipswich in a couple of weeks - how awesome is that in a simple MX5! There are cars available now that will give you that opportunity.
So, PM Cal or Neild and see if they have anything to email you. I would suggest that the rules in NSW need to be fairly relaxed until you get a committed field, then you can tighten the rules up. The QLD association runs as an offshoot (I think) of marque sports which is basicly what prod sports is but for most sports cars. BTW, I really want to see it happen, but many of us have spoken about it many times and can't seem to make it happen. We have about 10 cars so far when your series is ready though....

Hi Matt
Sorry for the delay in getting involved in this thread however I have only just found it.
Chris is sort of right (sorry Chris) we are trying to get an MX5 only class running however the politics in Motor sport is just too much. We actually operate under Prod Sport Car Ass of QLD. It just so happens that 95% of the members of the club run MX5's so we are leaning towards an MX5 committee.
To end up with an MX5 only class that is recognised by Cams we would need to triple the number of cars currently running to have a chance and that’s just the start. The V8 round is a step in the right direction however this is mainly due to the staff at QR and a thank you for the support we provide. Saying that the V8 is a very good opportunity to get our class noticed and show how good the racing is. At last count I think we will have close to 30-35 MX5 at this meet with the 80% of 2F. We are seeing increase interest in MX5 racing with allot of guys getting out of such classes as improved production to come and race with us as the racing is so close as there are heaps of people to race. The increased numbers is starting to cause a problem in that to be competitive in the 2f class an engine is costing more and more and the line between legal 2f and not are getting blurred
All in all the scene in QLD for MX5 is strong however we need more of you Mexican to buy these cheap cars and start to go racing in numbers. The more we have the better the chances we would have of a single class.
In relation to the thread I know you won't see any QLD cars at this event however we have already got commitment from at least 10 MX5 for the Oran Park 1hour later in the coming months.
Hope this helps?
The best thing I could say is do what Chris said buy a cheap car, cage it, come racing, have a ball then tell your mates to do the same before long we will have an MX5 class:mrgreen:

We'll be there with the 3 cars - 2 SE's and a NB8C with my 16 yearold nephew making his racing debut.
We have carports as well.
Can't wait to see the 4 SE's altogether for the 1st time!!!!
Charles is putting the 5's altogether in the carports so it should be Mazda central.
All you people wanting to see some Mazda's on track - this is the event to come and watch.

Coming to watch is why I am running this time, way to much fun to miss, even though I am only doing the regularity
So please do come along and have a look, talk to the guys and girls competing, then you can get it together to have a go yourself.

Guys, this is the best fun.
If you are in Sydney, them my best advice is, get your butt out and have a look, then get your stuff together for the next event.
AAAA +
By Sunday afternoon I recon I will feel like a groom at a wedding, (sore cheeks from smiling too much)
And after so many laps, absolutely knackered from enjoying myself so much.
Had a almighty battle with a 308 Ferrari, and an even better tussle with a Lancia later in the day, this is heaven.

Well what a great weekend!!!
Lou had a couple of incidents and the best save at the final corner I have ever seen!!! The SE did some great times and looked very tidy all weekend
Miss Matilda was her usual super fast self and was great fun watching her in the wet fighting the car to keep it on the track! Afterwards she said “that was soooo scary… but heaps of fun!!! â€
CT in Nemo had an out standing debut with a race win in the rain . The car looked fast sitting on the trailer and after he did a few adjustments and dialled it in it was great. It was so stable in the rain and I did not see CT put a wheel wrong in what were very trying conditions.
Our MX5 Racing cars went great. The SE with the std torsen struggled to get the power to the ground but I ended up with a 1.23 so that was not too bad. Joe and Aaron raced hard with Nick all weekend and swapped positions several times. All 3 had heaps of fun and were comparing lines (or lies?? ) after each race.
Brian Ferrabee’s car looked like a dog on lino for the first couple of races but he did great adjustments and the car was typically fast in the end. Renato in the other car got faster and faster over the weekend. He had our measure several times before a misfire slowed him for one race.
Brian Anderson was in the 944 and was in the pack most of the day. The wet race was exciting for him… and for us watching!!!
The regularity guys did very well with Mike leading the pack at one stage. Dennis and John were also going well mixing it on track with all sorts of interesting cars. The wet weather threw all the times out the window but all in all they had some fun. John made special friends with a black Ferrari so that is always nice…….
We managed to catch up with all the regular MX5 people and had a meet and greet with a couple of new ones!!!
All in all another awesome weekend. For all you guys wanting to get on the track you will not beat the FOSC. The next one will be at W/Park later on in the year so get yourself ready!!!

Yep, what a group of highs and lows for me. Car felt crazy on new rubber or cold rubber - total drift machine. Then I lost a little oil (litre or so!) through the catch tank........she won't rust anytime soon. Then I kept throwing power steering belts off the start line. Then I fixed all that, softened the rear bar and the heavens opened up. On went the wets, softened off the Teins with the EDFC and from P2, disappeared and won by almost 2/3s a lap in a very wet race. Thanks to all for the comments and support during the build. My luck does have a little to do with the MX5 community and shared learnings so I thank you guys for that.
Now, you blokes making excuses on the sidelines. You only live once. Grab an old shitter, build a simple race car, and come and join the fun. You have enough time to get a car ready so just do it. We have the knowledge and would love to help you do it - just ask us.
***Natsoft now has all the race results up.........FOSC and Famous was my favourite ***
