Yeah yeah yeah, but it was bloody fast while it was going!

ST165 is a great thing. Feels light and manouverable. Probably my favourite GT4. I still remember watching Carlos Sainz doing quality 4 wheel burnouts in bitumen at the Rally Oz test day, pissing himself laughing. Serious grunt!

ST185 feels heavy, and is a big car. Goes like a train though (when it's going, but I believe that's a matter that's been rectified now). Good fun, especially with the bang bang turned on in the Domain Tunnel. Works cars made good use of space for added performance extras too!

ST205 was almost too developed in the end. Infinitely adjustable suspension. Pretty fragile but drop dead gorgeous. Almost the best looking rally car of all IMHO. Didier Auriol left bits of one strewn all over a forest near Perth one night but still managed to finish I think! Thought seriously about buying one with awesome provenance once. Wish now I had.

DAJ - I rang up about a 205 for sale last year. Had a pretty ordinary cage in it, was an import on rally rego. He had had it since it came into the country, with quite a few kms on it. I asked him what work it had done, and he said pretty much none competitive. Then he went quiet and asked if I worked for Main Roads.... Anyway stop complaining, don't you still part own one of my other favourite rallycars (No, not the Stratos, but if you do own one then expect me on your doorstep in 17hours).

I do and it's going to Queensland to live very soon, so maybe you'll be invited to have a hoon in it once it's finished.

205T16 Ted, good choice. Killer car (literally!).

(btw Rally NZ booked too. Chopper day 2. WooHooo!)

I seem to remember DAJ always carried a footy in the boot...........something to do roadside after SS1 (or sometimes 1 1/2, or even SS2!) :mrgreen:

Ted;

That ST205 you're talking about wasnt by chance a black one @ byron bay?

By memory it was dirt cheap at 15000, but needed a lot of work to get it roadworthy as i wanted it for a road car...

I still hang out for the occasional Group A Ralley that pops up on carsales... I will probably buy one on day and give it a lot of love, only problem is they are starting to get very old and parts are near impossible to source, esp. for the ST205...

I think Mazda W.A. has only just thrown away the sets of rally tyres they had sitting at HQ :lol:
If you had access to a car like this, would you take it back right away? Neither would I.

Sirbob, could have been it. There were 2 I asked about, the other was red. But I don't think either could have been a road car, both rally imports.

Bad luck about the weather. Good decision to reschedule if it's too wet. I can always think of a couple of hundred places I'd rather be than in a rally car when it's pissing down!
