The car doesn't have to be expensive or fast to have fun. You don't have to be fast to have fun.
But you do want to be safe. Take your seat and car to a pro and get them to build the cage up around you and your driving position (+ passenger seat if required). You'll never have to change it, and you'll be happy knowing it's all up to spec.
In the scheme of a race car, it's not going to be the biggest expense anyway.
Yes i was quite happy with my near standard NB8a. I fitted a torsen LSD and made sure everything was up to spec. Added a fire extinguisher, tow points, blue triangle. Bought a good helmet and Simpson Hybrid FHR (works with lap sash or harness). I ordered a cams approved roll bar but started doing Supersprints before it arrived. That's economical motorsport with a registerd daily very close to standard. Tremendous fun.
Then i decided i wanted to race MX-5 Cup and didn't want to turbo the NB so i got a NC. Now i have economical racing in a road registered NC that i also use for club runs like today's President's Picnic.
