deviant wrote:Actually looking at those images....Is the 10hz one representing a single lap or a multiple of really consistant laps? Is the 1hz one lots of bad laps or is it a bit like when you have bad reception on your satnav and the picture of your car is driving on a road or in a field 500 meters to your left...so it is drawing lines that are either side of where you really are?
10Hz is a single run consisting of about 4-5 laps (recorded in my car with a Performance Box).
1Hz is a full day of runs with 35-40 laps (recorded with Racechrono on a mobile phone by dweezle).
There is far too much variability in the 1Hz plots for it to be explained by "bad laps". Drilling down into each lap individually shows the position jumping all over the place, like you say, from one side of the road to the other (or off it), even when the car was only travelling down the straight.
If Harrys lap timer + external GPS + iPhone actually delivers 5Hz or 10Hz sampling, then you're on a winner. Please let us know how it goes. And if you're able to export track maps, please post them up.

I tested it out, but hadn't set up the track properly so it comes up as a straight line:
Pretty impressive!

Re: Handy iphone apps?
I am liking the look of that!
Do you know how much space that video used on your phone memory? I assume iphone?
What do you need to do to get the circuit map?
Did you play with any of the other features...lap timing and telemetry?
Apparently it supports the addition of an outside antenna so I might give this one a go. I am on track on Saturday so hopefully I will get some results.

Not sure on space however I have the poverty pack iPhone 4 (16GB) and it was more than enough.
My suggestion would be to read (and perhaps print) the documentation before the day. We didn't have enough time to figure out how to use it and it isn't the most intuitive program out there. Another frustrating part is if you are wearing driving gloves as I was, the iPhone touch screen doesn't respond.
The lap timing depends on the circuit map working AFAIK, and the telemetry requires an OBD2 to wifi device. I'm working on a ADC to wifi device that will simulate OBD2, but it's not a priority at the moment.
As for the external antenna... I bought a TomTom iPhone kit just to use with this timer; the GPS is good but the mount is quite ordinary. I was using an iPhone RAM mount from CamZilla and it was much more stable than the TomTom. Eventually I'm going to hack up the TomTom so I can use it's GPS with the RAM mount. The video posted above was using the RAM mount.

100% stock engine & exhaust, added lightness, TEIN SS, 5 year old rock hard Yokohama S Drive tyres. A link to the full build diary is in my signature.
Cheers
