Yesterday I had the pleasure of 4 Laps around Qld Raceway with Will Davison.
So i thought i better Bragg about it somewhere!
Toll HRT had a promo day and were doing rides for sponsors etc.
Through mate of mate I managed to wangle my ass into the front seat harness.
The car was last years race car - fitted up to take 2 passengers - one in front - one in the back ctr(very cramped)
Luckily they decide who gets the front seat by size, so that was me.
It was everything you would expect. Will drove at 9.9/10ths the whole way, start to finish(including big drifty into pit lane)
The grip , acceleration and braking are all MASSIVE.
Not scary at all, felt very secure and happy, albeit quite cramped with helmet banging on the cage the whole way.
Steering wheel digital gauge showed going through Turn 1 at 185kph, and managed 285kph down main straight.
The biggest thing I noticed was the amount of time he drove above the tyre grip levels.
Every corner was taken at the limit with the tyres scrabbling for grip and the arears not coping at all with the power.
Every exit included a trip onto the ripple strips and used every inch of the track.
The entry to turn 3 was so much fun, standing on the brakes from 285 then sliding it round the hairpin seemingly out of control, but totally repeated each lap.
He is a terrific driver and I never felt worried at all.
The whole thing was LOUD, FAST and VIOLENT.
Just what I hoped it would be.
Gloat over.
What a spunk heh?

Do they really only pull 1.5G in corners with 10" slicks and all that aero??

185 kmh through turn one..............do you REALLY require an answer to that question??
Don't worry about what people think, they don't do it very often

Well, actually yes.
I thought the advantage of slicks and the even bigger advantage of aero would have them pulling much higher Gs than that, considering our little road car mx5s on treaded tyres and no aero can consistently pull 1.2s..

Gs huh.
I dont have an inbuilt G metre, but i know how my car car feels going around Turn 1 at 125 on road tyres.
The side 'push' in the race car was strong but not uncomfortable.
Also, you dont notice it as much in tight race seat and harness. (like floating around on the SE leather seats)
Lots of tyre slip right out onto the ripple strips.
The most noticeable Gs were under braking.
At rest, my feet didnt quite touch the firewall.
So under braking I hung from the harness like a parachute!
