Insurance again…

It’s been a while but I’m still around…

Shannon’s used to be the go to for insurance but things
Have changed a lot recently, my NA on historic rego, Shannon’s $500 a year, NRMA classic $150 a year.

I know there are a million variables with insurance but
More than ever it pays to shop around…

My Shannon's is coming up for renewal, I should check out the options. My home insurance came in as well (it's an expensive time of year for me! Dog insurance too!!!), and I halved it by changing to AAMI - HALVED IT!

A guy I know tells me he changes all his insurances every time he renews as the companies are willing to offer big discounts in order to acquire new business.
I must admit I get a bit tired of constantly haggling with my insurance companies to try to get a better deal.

I've noticed a few people lately saying that their Shannons renewal is quite expensive. I wonder if this is the catch up from the last 2 years of stupid car values with no real increase in premiums. For instance I had my value increased from $20k to $30k and only cost an extra $30 a year...
I know lots of people who did the same with almost no increase in premium.
Wonder what my premium will look like at renewal time...

Everyone says Shannons is the best for insurance yet they were nearly double for my car. Even the small unknown coys were just as dear.
RACV has a specialist area for our cars which is not common knowledge.

Yeah, switched to RACV in 2016 when Shannons car insurance started to increase. Switched from Shannons for house & contents in 2012 as it was increasing significantly then.

I think a lot of Shannons customers assume they are getting the best deal due to their specialist insurance. It pays to shop around as there are alternatives.

Shannon's hasn't been the same since being acquired by Suncorp.

Yeah before when you spoke to a Shannon’s person they
Sounded like an enthusiast and would chat about the cars,
Not like that any more.

I have two cars to register and insure in the next couple of months (the Fraud wagon and the SE), both with Shannons atm.

Thanks guys, I have been inspired to do a proper look-around this time. With some rennos about to get underway, I need all the spare change I can find. :|

Just a side-note; Panel beaters currently have a repair waiting list of a few months which is partly due to the diminishing number of businesses because the insurance companies cut the margins to the point of many closing up shop.
Plus;
-parts and labour shortages
-increase in crashes. I think post-Covid drivers have become crash-happy and less responsible on the roads.

Not wrong there m8..... dealt with some nice people chatted cars (I've been with shannons for a while).....
everything was cool & easy to deal with until my Mrs's S13 Silvia had been stolen & yeah basically dealt with "Suncorp" side of things because they pay the bills :x & it was bloody painful.

In the end we recovered the car from the thieves "Luckily in one piece" shell & interior no damage, but the driveline was a loss (engine locked up/clutch was toast & trans was really average) - ended up being a economical write-off. I bought the car back as is & just replaced the driveline.

But yeah it was painful dealing with the non car people side of Shannons "Suncorp"

So I've looked at my renewal with Shannons, seems to have jumped by ~$250, for 2 cars. I did a little hunt around trying different quotes, the Mazda is marginally cheaper at Enthusiast Insurance, but reviews leave me less than impressed. Everyone else was more expensive. We can't get RACV car insurance in Queensland.

I'll need to quote up the Subaru at a few places, maybe split them apart to different policies. And I'll give Shannon's a ring and see what they can do over the phone. Usually, I have good experience with them on the phone, friendly and knowledgeable about cars and mods. But RedMX was saying, they're the sales side, not the payout side. Hopefully I never have to deal with them.
