20th birthday AusCartalk

AusCartalk must have started about 20 years ago about this time in 2001. Slammer got me in here about August 2001. Some fatal error lost all info at around 2003 when our first registrations appear now. There is only a hand full of members left who still post here from that era.

some time later it was renamed Mx5cartalk when Okibi took over

Its sad to see its a former shadow of itself. Everyone seems to prefer facebook or other social media platforms these days. particular for parts.

anyway.

happy Bithday....whenever it was around about this time of year.

Gday Stefan. Indeed, I remember those days, I was just a kid. A lot younger than most of the guys in the scene back then.

I’ll have an MX5 again some time, though for “toy” duties only. This one will be “best and last”. I remember Slammer well, top bloke. Also the infamous Putty Run and “Flippa”. I had a good number of MX5s in the past and plenty of other cars as well, still have a real soft spot for the MX5, and it’s not about performance but the experience, and probably personal nostalgia now as well. I’m not on social media either mate so don’t keep up with goings on these days 8)

Happy 20th AUS-MX5Cartalk

Happy 20th Cartalk!

I'm very grateful for those who came before me, and to those still contributing today. The community may have shrunk, but it's still a great place to hang out.

Here's to 20 more!

Blimey! I was wondering recently about how long it had been operating prior to the reboot in 2003. We lost some good/interesting stuff in that crash, but what followed was entertaining, informative and generally invaluable for the users, and we are fortunate that that archive is still available, at least for those who can find the search function!

So I will raise my glass and toast its anniversary!! :D 8) , and likewise hope for many more.

PS Having tried the FB buy/sell MX5 group, all I can say is that it seems to be populated by idiots and wankers, which is probably what makes it a boon for the vendors, and what distinguishes it from a place like this.

Happy Birthday to all the other oldies!
As an online retailer I avoid Facebook due to the number of non-genuine buyers - I find them filtered onto Gumtree. They ask a question and then disappear, it's a waste of my time answering them.

Happy birthday MX5CT! I truly hope forums see a resurgence in popularity. I think we are seeing more and more mainstream discussion on the flaws and societal effects of social media. Even from a purely practical perspective, forums are vastly superior to SM platforms but I think the conventional forum format has struggled with the widespread transition to mobile devices.

I should have added - thanks to STM/Stefan for starting this thread, and thanks to Okibi/Dave for keeping the site alive!

Well done chaps! And well done to all who have contributed over the last two decades.

My post is meant to be all inclusive of old members as well as the newer ones. We've had some characters come & go over the year. Some clowns as well. Some real agitators LOL.

The drives, the dodgy days, the heartbreaks. A few romantic relationships. I know of at least one marriage of members who met on this forum.

Happy birthday indeed.

I'm glad it's still here. Better discussion and much more informative than FB.

I have to give a special thankyou to 93_Clubman, greenMachine, ManicaLachy and many others for all the useful info posted here. This is my go to site for anything MX5 related,

Also mention to Rocky and Mr Morlock who can both be entertaining (for different reasons).

It's a shame this is not used as much anymore.

We're in our second lockdown this year (Manly had one earlier in the year), and when doing stay at home projects on the MX5 there is always helpful guides and good reading material here.

Where is Mr M lately? I don't always agree with him, but I do miss his presence around here, he was knowledgeable and passionate.

Let's not start the whole forums vs socials again. Just remember, this forum is what you make it. If you sit back and only lurk then nothing will be posted and the place will die. SM is here to stay, but we can co-exist.

Occasionally from his posts over the last couple of years he seems to have been on the road with consequent breaks from the forum, so may be like many these days he's on the road again.

Wow. Is it 20 already lol.
I joined this forum after buying my Malibu 20 years ago.
Lots of great memories, banter and fun.
