Insurance, here's a good one

Car was hit while parked
Although there were no witnesses the perp owned up and gave me a claim number. Now I know they will write the car off as the damage to the front was extensive.
The question is how much are they going to cover the extra accessories that I fitted ??? I did not keep any records of what I spent purchasing my 'Bling'
but driving lights, alloys, rollbar, towbar are all substantial upgrades that need to be taken into account if writing off the value.

I guess you no longer have possession of the car (otherwise I would remove all the extras).

They don't usually add aftermarket extras into the payout unless you've already advised them and valued them on the policy as far as I know. My insurer actually included the BEGi intake, NitroDann exhaust and twin hoop roll bar into the policy for their new values which surprised me as my previous insurer wouldn't. Maybe buy the wreck back if worth it.

Always best to let your insurer know of aftermarket mods. I'm not talking replacement of wear and tear parts, but hardware changes. Not only can it affect claim values but some insurers might not cover you in the event of a claim if you haven't told them.

Just to make this clear I am not using my ins. as this had nothing to do with me and the at fault party will be paying for it all, inc hire car.
His insurance will be handling everything so there is no pre-notification of extras possible. Secondly it is not possible to remove all the extra fixtures. Just imagine rocking up to the storage yard and asking to remove the roll bar!

The other parties insurance company will communicate with your insurance company in regards to value the vehicle is insured for etc. If any modifications are listed on the policy they will be included, if not you are out of pocket.

Hmm...not sure how that works. Usually both drivers lodge claims and the insurance companies sort it out and if written off you get what was agreed in your policy. In this case you seem to be solely at the whim of the other driver's insurance company with no backup if they don't offer much. Maybe someone else has done it this way and can advise.

Yes, I understood.
Talk to the other insurance coy about it.
You could talk to your insurer but u may have to put in a claim which means paying excess (and I hope u declared all the mods to them prior).

Other driver has already admitted liability Bruce so no excess for bootz through his insurance unless there's some unknown circumstances. Either way, the modifications are in doubt if not initially declared.

Sounds like this will not end well (just like the other recent Insurance thread).
I hope the vultures stay away.

They (the panel shop) will take photos of the car and damages to send to the insurer. In those photos the assessor will see those extras on the car. When you communicate to the assessor, there will be photographic evidence as to those part fitted.

That'd be me, still waiting for assessor, hoping it "ends well"

Does any insurance claim end well, I am just dreading the 'market value' offer they make is not going to be market value.

My bet is the insurer simply pays market value for the car.
