Victorian H plate procedure - any advice.

Hi,
My NA turns 25 in September. It's a fully registered and engineered Nissan SR20DET engine swap etc. I will change it to Vic H plates.
I've read the procedure but those who have gone through the process, is there any advice you could provide? Should I run my mods past the MX5 Club first? How quick does the MX5 Club process your application? Is there any other clubs who would consider my car? Any friendly RW testers (mine had a RWC 3 yrs ago for rego so there are no problems)?
Tell me all!
Bruce

First off you must find a Club that will support the application and then meet their criteria- e.g. minimum number of runs and other things like having been a member of 12 mths etc. The scheme has rules and the movement expects users to do the right thing. Refer AOMC website and booklet and VR of course. A serious club will expect full set of documents for viewing and signing and that includes a RWC. The car will have to go on an M plate if VR follow the rules i.e. the car has been modified - in theory that will be easy. Vehicle would them have a number and M on the end. The permit as some Clubs say is a privilege not a right. If you want to know the MX-5 clubs rules then you should contact their Club permit officer. Its essential that one consults a prospective Club before proceeding.

Thanks for all the info guys. Didn't think there'd be a pre-requisite of a period of membership before granting a plate. I thought they wouldn't be interested before the car turned 25.
I shall research.

The 25 year requirement is set by the Vic Govt and that can easily change . VR don't set rules for the Clubs on attendance or membership pre requisites for members- thats done by the Clubs committee.

That's not a government regulation, it's a club regulation.
Some clubs are very picky as to who they give club reg to, others are pretty much open to anybody so long as you pay the annual club membership.

Yup, that's what I meant. I wouldn't have thought clubs would be too picky on how they got members - all clubs crave for more.
Thanks all.

But many clubs have realised that people want to make use of the great system we have available in Vic and want to make sure that their members are fair dinkum and not just having a number of vehicles registered under the scheme for cheap rego.Have seen Toyota Hi Ace with ladders and paint stains running around on H plates. So hence the membership period.Reasonable scrutiny is surely ok?Modified vehicles are another issue as already discussed.
Peter.

The reason some clubs are picky is that the clubs can have their authority to issue club plates revoked if any members are found to be rorting the system.
So just accepting any random nobody that wants club plates isn’t a good idea as it can ruin it for those club members who do the correct thing and follow the correct processes.
