Back In The Fold

Well, after a few years away, I'm back in the fold with a True Red NC.

My third MX-5: first was an NB8A, then an NA6 and now the NC. I was looking at NAs but they're classic cars now and I don't have anywhere to work on a car, so I went for modernity and comfort.

Apart from feeling much bigger then NC is still relatively close to the original. The ND is stunning but the budget couldn't stretch that far... besides, while the new red is appealing it's not my kind of red.

As you posted this a while ago and nobody has responded yet, let me say it's great you've come to your senses and grabbed another 5. Hope you enjoy the red NC and have many great motoring miles.
Red ones go faster as you know.

Cheers

Picked it up today, of all days, and had to crawl in Sydney traffic with the roof up. Still, nice to get back into the MX-5.

So to celebrate my return to the MX-5, I took a drive from Sydney to Melbourne for the Grand Prix. Just me and the car.

Slung a small backpack in the boot and went for it, taking advantage of friends' sofas and buying cheap tix for the event.

The NC is much better than I remember that the NA and NB ever was. Cruise control and an extra gear makes all the difference, although I suggest that the oversized luxury look of the NC is a fallacy: the NC is still a cramped two seater, loads of fun and is a true MX-5. I don't know why people dissed it so much and claim that the ND goes back to the MX-5s roots: Mazda has never strayed so far from the basic concept as it has with the RF.
