Anyone care to share their experience re the purchase of a soft top through these guys?

The prices seem considerably cheaper than they used to be and their eBay store mentions a further discount when paying by bank transfer.

The tops seems above average quality but am keen to know how the buying experience was - good communication, tracking etc.

Cheers,

Chuppa

My experience buying from them via ebay was fine, but it was back in 2004 when they first started selling on ebay. Many on here have bought their tops over the years & the only complaint I recall was from wun911 who had an ill-fitting top & couldn't get any joy from their UK shop. About 2010 they opened a physical store in Bentleigh, Vic: https://www.prestigetops.com.au/

Is Prestige Auto Soft Top the same company as the link provided by 93_clubman????
My understanding is that you don't buy anything online and pay by bank transfer...............bit of a worry, hence the discount.
That is of course, unless you know who you are buying from.

Same old rules apply- if something is too cheap there is usually a reason- warranty on workmanship- enforceable?. How do you know about above average quality- do they give a spec etc. If you buy overseas and don't like the product check who pays for freight back etc. By all means check out their credentials and if there is a local agent ring and preferable visit.

Thanks for the feedback. Have pulled the trigger on a new top with a plastic zip window. Should be here within a week.

Recently bought a mohair top from them.
Really nice top and answered the only question that I had for them promptly.
You should be happy

I was thinking of purchasing one from Prestige.

However I purchased one from someone who had never had a chance to install it before they sold their mx5. This was a one piece with glass window made by Sierra Soft Tops. Im am very disappointed with it. It was very tight to install. I had to drill and rivet the strap kit (Prestige offer one that doesnt have to be drilled).

The afternoon I installed it it rained. I thought "great I can park it outside now". This thought only lasted for about 2 min of driving it out of the garage until I saw rain streaming though the bottom of the poorly sealed glass window. I sealed this leak with some silicone.

The soft top has always been tight and doesnt sit down low enough when folded.

I got in the car the other day to realise the headlining (waste of time I think, as my head rubs on it) had pealed off. While inspecting it I noticed pin holes where the light was shining through the stiching where the seam is over the rear bow. Looking at the outside I see the heat sealed seam (which is backed up by the sticking) had pulled apart a little and back to reveal the stitching.

I will see the rest of summer out with this one. I guess I will be looking at a Prestige one next summer when the hartop comes off again. If only it wasnt such a arse of a job to fit it to the frame.

Wow what a crappy experience, hope you didn't pay too much for the Sierra top.

My prestige top arrived within a week. Just need a spare dry day and another pair of hands to have a crack.

Interesting to note their fitment guide stresses the frame needs to come out to properly fit the new top. Was that the case with the Sierra top?

That Sierra top sound somewhat like the one I put on my '94 (after some moron cut it to break in despite the doors being unlocked). Didn't leak but was way too tight. Couldn't even get close to latching the top initially and even after a lot of adjustment and stuffing around had some creases either side of the rear window that I could never get rid of. Can't say for certain it was Sierra though as it was a long time ago. I remember back then it was a choice of genuine, Robins or the one I bought, which was at least half the price of either of the other options.
