Hi just wandering how common oil usage is in a NB mx5 just dipped mine and It looks like I’ve used a bit with the oil only coming half way up the dip stick when before it was full the car has done about 4000 km since oil change.

My NB8A (193,000 Km) uses minimal oil and others say the same. It can be difficult to read the dip stick accurately. Look on both sides and read off the side that shows the lowest. Like most Japanese cars its okay to slightly overfill but never underfill. Your usage over 4000km is probably okay but worth checking on a regular basis for a while to be certain. Most owners change every 5000 anyway. Main thing is not to let it get lower than half way down between the marks if you drive it hard(ish).

check / top it up once in a while and don't stress.

when you start using about 5L in 1000 k's you'll probably get pulled up by the EGA. youve got a fair way to go for that

400ml of oil in 4000km. Well not high rate of loss. It is getting up there. Top up as others have said.
