I damaged the housing closure mechanism on my SJ4000 the other day and in searching for a replacement part came upon this, these cameras are beaut and come with every imaginable accessory apart from a suction mount, there are constant 'firmware' upgrades and a wealth of knowledge from other owners.

Thank you Paul, my OP was nothing more than the suggestion of their affordability and accessibility.

Indeed & free postage! Depending on availability & cost of parts & time, it can question viability of repair.

the camera is starting to resemble the dodo bird- the vast majority of snappers just use their mobile phones which do a very good job and so convenient.

Phone cameras are improving with light, depth of field etc, but still don't compare. But with the use of the built in app features these days plus Photoshop or on phone apps for editing, some people are taking and creating amazing images from modern phones.

I can't really be bothered anymore ... just point and shoot snap shots is good enough for me.

Phones aren't particularly useful in cases where an 'action' camera can be. Can be hard to mount phones in a good position, with stability, where an action camera housing can be much better.

I have an SJ4000. It's a decent camera, not as good as a gopro but still very good. The one in that link will not be a real one for that price; they're around 100aud from proper sellers. Gearbest.com is an official supplier, the SJ4000 is on there for about $82 without any gizmos, $112 with all the housings/mounts etc. It's been replaced by the SJ5000, and they also produce a couple of newer ones called SJ6 and SJ7, which I know nothing about, other than that they're more expensive; $144 and $182 respectively.
