Hi all
Up front, this is with regards to a mazda 3, but is not 3 specific.
My friend has been having battery drain issues, and during the discovery, has found the culprit; a black box connected to the battery.
WTF is it? No distinct markings. I'll probably take it apart and look at the electronics later.
Thoughts?

Rust-preventing "snake-oil" device?
i had one, looked a bit different to this, on my SP23 which was always on so I ripped it out!
Either that or you're being tracked by "The Missus" so don't go near any brothels and tell your lover to "back off" for a while, she's "on to you".

I'd normally say old alarm, but its only got a couple of wires.
I'd have to guess it's probably some crappy voltage stabiliser, or an attempt at one.
Otherwise the rust prevention thing is a possibility, but usually they're bolted directly to a steel section (usually with a heap of rust that they've caused rather than prevented)

Oddly enough, this is on an SP23!
Recently bought, was was from previous owner. I was thinking GPS tracker, so I'll know more when I rip it apart.

the 'tick mark' N3717 is an approval number related to radio gear, so it's almost certainly a GPS tracker. It will probably have a SIM card for mobile connection.
(he's not on an ASIO watch list is he?....

I think they need to step up their tactical Velcro game. But you never know considering his travel history.
And thanks, btw. I'll confirm when i tear it to pieces.
